Which products to buy to protect new car?
Discussion
Picking up a brand new car on Wednesday and I'd like to apply something to protect the paint work as much as possible.
I know the paint finish isn't the best on new cars (especially BMW's) but I'd still like to protect it as best I can until I can get it detailed.
Is it worth applying something Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax?
Any advice would be much appreciated. The car is alpine white if that makes a difference.

I'm going to watch this one with interest as I was just about to ask the very same question....
I won't hijack(much ) - but for any detailers answering, the new car will be Metallic Black with a very light grey leather (almost white) interior. I laughed when they tried to sell Supagard for £600.
Much like my existing car I plan to use - Gtechniq C1.5 outside & L1 inside - maintained with Nanolex Reactivating shampoo

476 is very good but the longest protection (if thats all your after) will be from a sealant, something like tough coat:

How long before you get it detailed?
Hopefully in the next month or so, but just waiting on starting a new job so depends on the finances. As it happens, just got an £100 voucher for www.theultimatefinish.co.uk - so can anyone suggest a range of products to use? I haven't got a clue.
You would be better off speaking to the detailing company who is going to be working on the car. They may use a protection coating that isn't compatible with what you purchase. You can't put a sealant over a wax, but you can wax over a sealant.
If the car is being detailed by a recognised detailer, then the £100 would be better spent on getting a decent wash kit together to keep the car looking good; snow foam, quality shampoo, buckets and grit gaurds, quality wash mitts etc. If you don't have a pressure washer then drop the snow foam from that list.
As for protecting the car for 4-8 weeks, by something like a Meguairs wax from Halfords or similar, one coat should last 4-6 weeks.

You CAN put a sealant over a wax, but it depends which one. For example, a simple acrylic spray sealant can sit over a wax with no issue, but a nano coating can't.
The only rule with detailing is that there are no rules
DHE is correct in saying the money could be well spent on maintenance kit - I'd certainly say a pressure washer would be a good way to spend the 100 GBP, but even a half decent one will wipe that budget out.

So, recognising the 'no-rules' thing which order would you use the Collinite(or Meguiars Gold Class), C1.5 and Nanolex then....??Gassing Station | Bodywork & Detailing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
