Hi,

In the process of winning over my wife to the idea of a 911- and thought a good trip away in one demonstrating we can get all the stuff in/ it's comfortable on longer trips etc would be great.

I am finding it tough to find a rental option that doesn't have a very low mileage limit. I'm not after a brand new car to rent- quite happy with early 997, but would like something where I could take it for a decent trip away- maybe 1500 miles over a week- although 1000 would also be fine.

Any options people know about?

Thanks,

R.R

Not considered looking at in Germany and while not quite there- the package is quite a bit better...

Avis do a 911 - in UK- about GBP 700 for 2 days with 200 mile limit (100 per day), in Germany about GBP 450 for 2 days with 400km limit (assume 200km per day).

Bear in mind that some UK rental companies do not insure outside of the UK

I've rented 911s from Avis in the UK and Germany recently and done big miles both times. It was hideously expensive due to the excess miles charge but I loved every minute of the experience. I justified the cost on the basis that depreciation is even more expensive!

Anyway, I intend to repeat the tomfoolery this September after visiting the Franfurt show by renting a 911 for a week and driving the Swiss and Austrian Alps again.

If you're looking to buy from an OPC they may well lend you one for 24/48 hours to help

Yes but a trip "away", presumably Europe would be taking the mick somewhat, don't you think?

It's one thing for a 24/48hr test to see how it fits in with your family life and another to rack up several hundred or more miles on a jolly, no?

I've got a Boxster (and a VW Camper) that I rent at the moment and I am looking at getting a late 996 or early 997, just trying to find one at the moment. I'm in your neck of the woods so if I come up with anything I'll let you know. I'm fairly relaxed about mileage, I think that a lot of the bigger guys put pretty tight mileage restrictions on and that some people want to drive them a bit further. I guess that their cars are newer so the effect of mileage is greater on the value.

Agreed, I worded it badly. I still think it's a good way to see if the car fits in with lifestyle

No doubt. This is probably worth doing ahead of a trip.
