I'm looking to replace the alternator..

Are there aftermarket versions?

ie for for a higher output at idle - mine doesn't.

Where can you get the current alternator from?

I think that the alternators output is to do with the pulley sizes fitted.

How often are you sat idling? Most if the time I imagine that you are moving and therefore it shouldn't be much if an issue.

I got my last one from neil at http://www.mlperformanceparts.co.uk/ He used to run TVR Car Parts. I think it was about £130

Yep it is the pulley size to stop the Alternator over reving when giving it a few beans, mine charges at idle by making the idle 1000rpm.

thanks for the replies...

I think its where i've been chewing through batteries because they're not getting a good charge and cannot remember if this charged at idle.

...at the moment with fans, heater stereo and rear screen on the battery is not getting enough juice to charge back up - so its getting lower and lower each time, resulting in the cold mornings it turns over 3 times and then its dead.

Can you get power to the car, presume not. If you can, get an optimate or similar
