My Boat.....whats the bill going to cost me

So I have a 5.7 V8 Mercruiser of 1997 carb vintage.
Boat went in the water 2 weeks ago, then straight out again ! wouldnt turn over fully, crank only turns 3/4 of the way round.
Call today from the mechanic tells me, engine is now out of the boat completely
Head is rusted with valves stuck in place
water got in to 2 cylinders
head gasket blown between the 2 cylinders
1 valve snapped by piston
ring gear lost 3 teeth
always great news
So I need a new starting ring gear
a new or recon head
8 new valves
new gasket set
oils
filters
labour and more labour
Apparently the cylinders and pistons are all OK.
So what are your thoughts on the bill im going to have to face. My mechanic only charges 40 an hour but there will be alot of labour charges and the engine removal & refit.

I would stop and take stock of things before going to far.
You could lay your hands on a brand new long block for around 2 - 2.5k The labour to swap the bolt on bits over being minimal.
Whichever way you go though make sure you check the exhaust manifolds too. Seen too many engines rebuilt and immediately wrecked by sticking the old manifolds back on.
If your man feels he can do it all inside the above cost then the cheapest place for parts would be Realsteel. Ignore the mercruiser branding as they are basically a standard chevy lump to start with. It's only the bolt ons that are marine specific.

Just tell them what you've got and they can match it up. From memory on small blocks the only changes are cam and inconel valves. All the rest is bolt on stuff.

The exhaust manifolds, risers and y piece were all replaced about 2 years ago, by me.
So if they can get a new head for a few hundred pounds then I will go that way, then valves, consumables, gaskets etc, ring gear and i reckon £1500 bill
what do you reckon ?
Otherwise a new complete block is £3300 + fitting = £5000
