New owner just wondering the best place to get 944 parts, needing service bits, filters, belts etc and also bonnet struts and possibly body panels. The usual stuff!

Also good forum for tech stuff and banter?

Cheers,

Dunc.

Dunc,
Always found Bert Gear at Berlyn Services good for parts etc (http://partsforporsche.co.uk/home-l-1.html). For specialist forums best are the Porsche Club GB and TIPEC forums lots of 944 enthusiasts with lots of knowledge.

I use Promax a lot, helps that they'll know what you need which is an advantage over some of the bigger multi make car places. Also Jon Mitchell down in Bornemouth. Also don't forget OPCs a lot will post bits out like Tonbridge & Exeter & with TIPEC discount can be very competitive.

OPC (Porsche Centre) should always be called in the first instance as surprisingly can often be cheaper than other vendors.

PCGB is only club with 944 registry and model specific forum, TIPEC is also good source of info, lots of knowledgeable enthusiasts at both and membership of either will get you discounts if you join up.

Second JMG Porsche - the great plus with them, any parts they supply they will give you support if you have problems fitting... I know, I've asked a lot of dumb questions! Sometimes being put on hold while they get one of the mechanics who knows the cars better, for engine seals, etc. Give them a call also, their web site isn't fully populated yet.

If you will take aftermarket parts then ECP are worth a look - especially if they have a discount code at the time. It is worth cross checking against other cars, the part with Porsche on the box can incur a tax...
Porsche 944 spare parts and cross reference

Otherwise I generally use the OPC (AFN Reading, parts guys very helpful), Type911 and Design911.

For accuracy so have TIPEC!

For accuracy, Tipec don't. They don't have a specific 944 Register, and they lump the 944 in with the other water-cooled frontrunners. Most 944 owners are either members of both Clubs, or users of both forums, so there's no reason to be competitive. smile

For the OP's benefit, reading the FAQs on the PCGB or Tipec forums will save you time and money. Part prices can vary from one supplier to another, so save yourself the effort of researching it all and read other people's experiences. Both are great owner forums.

I never said that TIPEC have a specific 944 Registrar, then we don't have registrars. I did make a mistake in thinking that PCGB had a general frontrunner forum which they don't, they are seperate. Not sure why as they have common roots, hence why the TIPEC forum is grouped as 924/944/968 & then Boxsters/Cayman, 928, All 911 etc.

Always check your local OPC and Exeter OPC first. Then try Bert Gear (Berlyn) and maybe Frazer Part.

Be very wary of firms like Porscheshop who frequently buy from an OPC and then sell it to you at twice the price. Tehyd be one of the last firms that Id consider, rather than one of the first.

OPCs will frequently surprise you with their prices (low & high!) and I will recommend Bert Gear unreservedly.

If you ask nicely an OPC will put the parts in the post to you, just make sure you order the correct ones! (There is a CD available with parts diagrams and numbers)

They dont really need to be nearby Dunc, I use Exeter OPC and live in London, this is because they support older cars (more than others) and know what they are talking about. Ive often had items under certain amounts sent 2nd class for free too! Cant ask for more than that...
