Folks, I have some sort of PC Virus/Spyware that stops me getting into hotmail. If I go to www.hotmail.com and log in the browser immediately redirects to some sort of web search page and an add pops up trying to sell me spyware remover! I am guessing that this is a scam to entice me to buy it - which ain't gonna work.

I use Norton Anti Virus, which can't seem to fix it (no surprises there then). NAV did identify one malicious file but could not delete it. I then tried "Hijack This", which did manage to delete it, but it merely reloaded itself the next time I tried to access hotmail.

Not knowing much about this sort of stuff, how can I find the malicious file? When I run "Hijack This" it brings back a whole bunch of stuff, but unless it says something specific like "iTunes... blah blah" I have no clue if it's good or bad!

Any ideas?

Cheers,
gixxer

There are some applications available that are quite up-to-date with removing the latest ad-/spyware. Search this forum or wait until Windows-using PHers reply

When you've removed the fecker, download the latest stable FireFox browser from www.mozilla.org
This means not only faster and feature rich (through extensions) browsing, but as well less vulnerability to get spyware, and no (to date) infections on the browser

Type in "spybot" into a search engine... sounds like you have a browser hijacker...

Podie, I already have Spybot and it doesn't catch it.

Which search page are you getting. Is it Home Search or Cool Web Search or something else?
