Hi All

Does anyone know where I can get a set of four replacement drive shaft UJ's from? I have removed then tonight and the cap size is 27mm across and they are 87mm overall. There seems to have been a bit of a mix and match on the car. Made in Japan on the drivers side and GKN on the near side. They did all have grease nipples though.

Another question coming up about bent rear tie rods. Trying to sort some pics first.

Cheers Karl.

My 350i has 27 x 82mm which are the smaller type UJ's and they are the same as the Land Rover part number RTC3346. I used the ones made by GKN with a grease nipple. They are very cheap on ebay.

Last time I bought some it was at the local factors. Took the old one in to compare. Local one to me is very helpful.

Thanks Guys

In my rush to get to work I may have misread the size and they may be 27 X 82 not 27 x 87mm. I will check when I get home.

I hope I was wrong because as ferlin says they are very cheap on ebay.

Cheers Karl.

Make sure you get ones with frease nipples, and grease them every 6 months if you use the car regularly (or every time you have to adjust the handbrake ;^)

I was wrong they are 27x82mm. I must start taking my specs in the garage. I've ordered some GKN ones from a Landrover specialist on eBay.

Many thanks Karl

I thought you only adjusted the handbrake once a year before the MOT?

Seriously I always make sure the end caps have a smear of grease in them, as the only time I've seen worn UJs on a wedge they appear to have rust damage where water has got in past the cir-clips.

Thangs (sic) for correcting my spelling Danny ;^) Yes on the 400SX the handbrake adjusters usually work so I've only adjusted it once in 6 years, though on both 350i's the adjusters are useless so they would get done every 6 months manually.

I echo your comment about water getting in - most times when greasing I see some water queezed out of the caps before the grease starts oozing out - and most of the failures have been with very rusty needles. Regular greasing will keep the water out.

Yes, it's all Jag XJ6/XJS... though the handbrake cable is a special as are the driveshafts.
