Having realised I couldn't jack the Cerb up before xmas, (rusty stain where jacking point should've been), I put her on the Willow Sportscars waiting list for chassis/outrigger work.

Well, yesterday we got her on the ramp for a good look, I'd like to say GREAT at least now I know, but she hasn't been looked after very well, so i'm gonna rectify this as much as I can, my main worry isn't the chassis as Nick appears to be the modern day equivilant of DaVinci, the powdercoated Cerb chassis on the shop floor is a work of art. One day, One day.....but tracking down all the parts,it might help keep costs down a bit if I can get a deal while we climb that waiting list, generally all the consumables, bushes, boots n gaiters, I'm after a good source of general everyday driving parts, if race track quality lengthens the life span then i'll fit them,
New pipes, hoses etc, should i get the ACT silicon ones or standard?
But my biggest problem is the missing undertray, one that goes the full length, does anyone know where I might get one?

This aint gonna be cheap, so if anyone has a spare anything sat on a garage shelf that they think I might need, then i'm open to negotiation,

Thanks all, cheers, Karl

I am guessing that will be mine!

To answer your questions...

Replace all of what you can afford now. It doesnt make sense paying to put rubbish back on the car. So hoses, radiaitor, diff, maybe clutch, brakes fuel pipes etc shouuld all be considered. Either refurb or renew as you can afford.

Are you just doing outriggers or going for the full monty?

Meant to say its a speed6, trying for the full monty, it's not just the outriggers that are shot, will have a better idea when its off and shot blasted.

Hi Alistair, yours is looking real nice and the shockers arrived while I was there,
bootiful, not much longer, how long has Nick had it so far?
cheers

It has been there a while. However as I am sure you will have noticed, I am having rather a lot done!

You are in very good hands.

Work your way through the alternative parts sticky at the top of the forum. Most of the suppliers and part numbers you need are in there.

Allow 4-5k for parts on top of the chassis if you really do want to replace everything - DAMHIKIJKOK!

ETA - It probably wouldn't cost that much to get an undertray cut. The original is a heavy old beast and replacing it with an ally one wouldn't be much less stiff.

Throw the money at the stuff which you don't want to or can't easily touch again... In other words, while the body is off, get the chassis PROPERLY sorted as well as the diff mounts & brake lines. Anything else is down to how much faff/£££ you can put up with.

For my re-build, I'm also doing all the wishbones, bushes, steering, joints, AC & cooling. From there, anything else can easily be tackled as I when I want to, have cash & done on the driveway over a weekend!

My re-build is costing the thick end of £3.5k and other than the body lift & welding, I've been doing the work myself.

Great advice, been scouring that alternative parts list already, I had a Lotus once that was mostly Ford, Austin and Alfa, great resources for cheaper parts.

Having had that Lotus and doing a few other challenges which require me to be busy in the evening or weekends have taught me one thing, on a big job like this get someone else to do it or I'll be at it for years and still it won't be as good as the pro's.

So i'm biting the bullet and telling plenty white lie, all in the name of preservation, cheers

Sorry no snaps, thought about it on the way there, but when she was on the ramp started to drift away from reality, agreed to all the work necassary, regardless of cost, completely forgot about mentioning the wife could change her Mazda this year, then swore on the way home cos they'd have been interesting.
However I'm only up the road from Newark so I'll get plenty of before during and after shots,
cheers

Cheers Matty, I have sent them an email, interesting to note on wheeler dealer tonight how cheap the powder coating process is.

Still wouldn't do it myself, I'd never bloody finish it all, been living in a house for 9 years that I only got a completion certificate for 6 years after moving in, shouldn't have moved in and spent two months finishing it off instead of tripping over stuff for 6 years, be just like that with the car.

I can do some of the mechanicals, so Camel Landy you make a good point I might defer the easy access bits do them later, and throw the cheque book at the buried bits, but i did like those wheels, god its a nightmare, got to be focussed.
Cheers
