Not entirely sure why, but I've always had a thing for the Classic.

Anyway, few weeks back I'm down at my folks' place and have a nosey at a few on ebay... my dad eggs me on, and I win this....

1990 3.9 V8 Vogue with an LPG conversion, full leather, etc.
Bodywork has a fair 'patina' to it, but no real rot to speak of, and underneath is solid. She was serviced every 5k upto the current 103,000 miles...

Someone appears to have placed a hot iron on the rear carpet at some point... random.

Little bit of patina...

Anyway, I dumped her at my house and ignored her for a few weeks till the snow came...

After I beached both my Porker and my girlfriends TT. The Rangey was the perfect solution!

So last weekend, after ripping a tyre off the rim (was a little bit too adventurous with the off-loading!) I gave the inside a really good clean, and adjusted the upper tailgate so it shuts properly. Just waiting for a few missing bits to arrive (parcel shelf, spare wheel cover) then I may get the dents looked at my the local dent man. I'm actually starting to like her now! Even things the the crap old Meta alarm, random central locking, and stick-it-in-the-slot-and-wait immobiliser all give her a little more charm.

May even replace the sagging headlining in the next week or two!

Of course, with 2 Mk1 Escorts already, I really needed something that requires ongoing maintenance... oops.

At the moment I still prefer the look of the Classic to the new RR.

Oh yeah, and initial plans are to remove the side steps and the front valance as I think it looks cleaner without.

Did I mention the 6 wheels and tyres I just bought (off ebay..) because I needed to replace the 1 tyre i knackered on the weekend? Slippery slope...

Less than £3k, which I think was actually high.

Oh well, you can't take it with you!

Now that does look nice. No rot in the usual places?

You've done well. I was expecting something nearer 5k

Looks great!
Me and my brother towed a chap out of the snow at the weekend with ours.
He came back with a bottle of armagnac to say thank you.

That is an absolute bargain! Looks too nice to take off-road, but at the same time it doesn't look molly-coddled. In fact it looks perfect to me. I'd not bother taking off the side-steps unless you're gonna smack them on something when off-roading.

Another admirer - that's a beautiful, classic motor.

FWIW, I;d leave the valance perhaps, but agree the side steps do look ste.

Stop this.

I had similar thoughts but given I walk to work, own a perfectly good E39 V8 and an MX5 I can't see when I'd use it.

Annoying as I really fancy this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-CLASSIC-RANGE-ROVER...

Haha! Yes, it's hard to find reason as to why I bought this. My 'daily' is a 997, and I've an E36 M3 stashed away too, plus I commute to work on the train...

THIS is what being a petrolhead is all about smile
