racing a porsche 924 turbo

i own a 944 turbo which i am currently rebuilding, i also just picked up a 924 turbo which is fully prepped for racing.

im very keen to do a season of racing next year, it would be my first time circuit racing, although i have plenty of track experience and can drive.

i run a motorsport prep team, so spend my life building other peoples race cars, its about time i went racing myself.

just wondering what series i could race my 924 turbo in and be competitive. its a 2.0 turbo.
i know the cscc future classics/modern classics is an option, as well as the porsche club gb, also thought about track day trophy/team trophy.

any other series worth considering?

been doing plenty of track days in a mitsubishi evo i have, but keen to go racing now!
im pretty quick round a circuit so only need to adapt to racing.

With the turbo equivalency factored in, thats 3400cc, so you'll be up against some serious peices of kit wherever you race - unless the Porsche championships run a class specifically for the 924 turbo.
However if you just want a run out and a bit of fun & frolics, then CSCC seems a good option with the added ability to run two drivers to keep costs down, if the 924 is eligeable, of course.

POrsche 924 Turbo is an awesome little beast and you really have to drive it (hard) to appreciate just how much fun they are !! Sadly Im just about to break mine due to vandal damage, but hopefully it will keep a few more on the road. Just watch out cos the early ones turbo kicks in at 3400 not 2900 its not the same fun. Loved driving mine all day instead of a more modern BORING car, although to be fair my 928 was better, and more expensive to run !! Have fun, and I can imagine there great to race, EXCEPT the engines are as rare as ell cos you cant get pistons and finding a good box isnt that easy either.

You could also post this up on the Porsche forum as there are a few members on there who race in a variety of guises.

Depends where you're based, but there are quite a few regional Sports and Saloon car series round the country - not sure how competitive a 924 turbo will be as has already been stated, it puts you in with the big engined stuff and the Japanese Turbo Nutters in most series.

750MC Roadsports and Team Trophy however organise things by power to weight, so you would be in a class of similarly paced cars, which might be the best route for you.

Otherwise, pretty much all series penalise turbos, so you may have to accept that you're in a car that will not be copmpetitive in it's class, but in some of the more open class championships you can still enjoy racing others from different classes and get some seat time under your belt anyway, than perhaps in a year or two move to a car you could stand a chance of winning in.
SEMSEC is pretty open, if you're in the SE and like Lydden , there are English regional and Scottish Saloon & Sportscar series, plus of course the CSCC.

I run a 911 in CSCC Future Classics but for a short time (quite a few years ago) raced a 924 Turbo in the PCGB championship, before switching to the air cooled route – but I did encounter a lot of 924 Turbo engine problems, which I’ll happily share with you if you PM me in case it can help you avoid problems.

Your car is eligible for the Future Classics series (70s and 80s cars), 40 minute races with pit stops. I was planning on racing in the CSCC Mag 7s this year (car off the road at present).
