Teacher - what next?

Hi All,

The Whiff is considering jacking in her job as a teacher as, quite frankly, the system is now close to being more red-tape and false statistics than teaching. She has management experience through the job and is perhaps looking to go part-time with the next.

Having been in teaching since leaving university, she's not sure what her skills could be transferrable to. She's keen to stay away from government run (NHS, public sector jobs) as they're likely to have similar problems.

Can anybody share an experience (first, second of third hand) of a teacher finding a new calling. We know that ultimately only she can choose what she'd like to do, but a little inspiration never hurt anybody! (I don't think, anyway...)

Her experiences so far may not be wholly indicative of the entire education sector, so ruling out all aspects of education, including the independent and FE sectors, could be premature.
Has she considered private tuition; this is a growth industry for those areas that have competitive entry grammar schools close by.
Has she considered learning & development roles? Many large organisations (including the NHS and LAs) employ L&D staff within their HR departments.

That's just a few that come straight to mind; I'm sure there are many more if she were to formally articulate her core competencies and map these to advertised person specifications for roles/sectors she may have an interest in.

Cheers Rog. Yes, she's considered exam board work and private tuition. She's very good with people, so an L&D role would suit her. She can't stand sitting behind a desk all day, so taking training sessions for companies could suit her very well.
