Training plans for turbos
Discussion
Hi
Turbo trainer will hopefully be delivered tomorrow
But what should I do with it?!
Relatively new to cycling having only started last Autumn. Endurance is improving and I'm currently managing 50 miles reasonably comfortably including some hilly roads local to me but want to increase this when weather allows.
Should I use the trainer...
1. As a method to get some more miles in my legs when other commitments, weather etc prevent me going anywhere on the bike?
2. For interval training to help build strength, which tbh I've read a bit about but I'm not sure where / how to start?
3. With some sufferfest or similar videos
4. Or a mix of above?
Cheers,
L'rs

It really depends what your goals are but if you are relatively new I would start off with some simple varied intensity workouts. 10 min warm up at light resistance but fairly high cadence, then something like 10 repeasts of 2 mins of high resistance, high cadence with 30s reduced effort in between, then a 10 mins warm down similar to the warm up. thats a reasonable 45 mins work out which should start to increase stamina and thresholds.
Thanks gents.
I'd seen the other topic but thought the 2x20 format might be a bit too much too soon for me. Trainer road looks like a great tool, defo a link to refer to in the future.
The suggestion made by pablo seems like a good way for me to start. All I need now is my turbo to arrive!

Start easy and work up to it. 2x10 or 2x15. I aim to hold my heart rate around 80-85% of my Max HR for the two blocks.I'd seen the other topic but thought the 2x20 format might be a bit too much too soon for me. Trainer road looks like a great tool, defo a link to refer to in the future.

That's why I liked pablo's suggestion which seems a better way to start, but 2x10 and upwards will be my aim as I get stronger. Have also ordered a garmin which should arrive with trainer to give me cadence and HR measures, as well as making sure I'll not get lost on longer rides
