Decent steak in Kendal
Discussion
I'd recommened the newly refurbished Romneys on Milnthorpe Road, it really is a nice pub, Have been there a few times in the last couple of months, I'd also recommend The Brewery and Giannis, both do a good steak, there plenty of independent pubs around the outskirts that do good food, it depends on if you want to travel outside of town

Personally my view is for a really good steak you will have to look outside kendal (aside from my house that is!!) the following are ones that worked for me;
15 mins away (both part of same group, really nice gastopubs, good bitters)

If you get a good day a walk up gummers Howe (lakeside end of windermere) great view and all in 1 hour up and back with food at strawberry bank ( also called masons arms) fans tail view across valley but never had steak there other food good

20mins - Kirkby Lonsdale has a number of nice bars / restaurants. Inc The sun, The orange tree both good for steaks and the sun for atmosphere
30 mins away, back down m6 the bay horse garstang - not a late service place so need to check, probably a bit far away but outstanding stakes and in my view the best of the lot
In kendal itself I have to agree the best place for all in atmosphere is the brewery but really beers and pizzas but will always have a bit of life in the place

Keep meaning to give this place a try:

It's on the back road from Kendal to Windermere and looks pretty good, if the reviews are to be believed.
Anyone else been there?
On a side note, what attracted you to Kendal for a stag? I'm originally from Ambleside, and have relatives in Kendal, and am struggling a bit to see the appeal.

I have been to homlescales and should be a good day, if you are looking at other activities its worth checking out kendal climbing wall, best to book a private instructor and before you think it's just a wall it's the highest in the uk and the main wall if you get even half way up before you bottle out you are a better man than me (might be an idea of weather is bad, but will need to book)
Also if you stay in kendal there is a train link to winderemere which saves drive (Allows all to drink! Note winderemere station is not brownness which is on the lake) if you do this stavely is worth a stop as it has its own micro brewery (hawes head beers) which is a nice trend place for a beer and lunch and beer and beer!
If I think of anything else will post - if you know approx when you are up here there maybe specific local things on - worth a search in westmoreland gazette things to do for ideas
One thing of note there are no lap dancing bars in the area!
Good luck

We used to go to the wild boar a lot and it used to be excellent. From the pictures it looks like it may have had a refit so not sure if that has changed. Lovely place though!http://englishlakes.co.uk/restaurants/restaurants-...
