As we all know the weather is terrible my highly polished v8v roadster stuck in the garage on trickle charge with a cover on not going any where fast .my question is what problems may I come across with it not been driven I haven't had it out for 3 weeks I know it's not a good idea just to start it up and then let it run in the garage I know the solution would be to get out in it but conditions round leeds terrible would of had it out this week so any advice would be much appreciated
3 weeks isn't long, it'll be fine. If dry then the brake discs won't be rusty, is the handbrake on? It could bind a little but easy to overcome.
There is a starting method in the manual to get some oil to the top of the engine; throttle to the floor and hold it down while you push the starter and let it turn over until the oil light goes out. 5secs or so.
Then start as normal. But make sure that pedal is flat to the floor as that provides the cut out... If you're not all the way down, you'll just get a massive flare of revs!

Yep, that's why when it's in my garage I don't put the handbrake on; just leave it in gear. And also take it for a quick whizz after washing it so the discs are dried out.But yeah, 3 weeks is not long, I'd not worry about that.
Sorry gents, may I just ask again on this procedure so I have it right for starting after long sit up.
1. Fully press accelerator AND clutch so I then get starter light
2. Whilst holding BOTH pedals then engage starter , will the engine fire with this or will this just circulate oil from sump ?
3. As I understood from previous post I would do the above and engine would not fire but just circulate oil
4. Now I resume normal operation ? Or am I missing something ? How would I get high revs if engine doesn't fire with above procedure ..?
Confusion now takes hold as it was mentioned you must ensure you fully have accelerator pressed as this functions as a cut off ? In which case this suggests engine will fire and I am left with accelerator fully pressed , is this good ?
Sorry people, I always confuse stuff like this.

I would suggest "dont even think of trying it" it will end in disaster!1. Fully press accelerator AND clutch so I then get starter light

Correct. However, do it in burst of 5-10 seconds, until oil light goes out. Now, this is imnportant, remove your foot from the accelator! Then start normally. If you try starting it with any throttle you'll s1. Fully press accelerator AND clutch so I then get starter light

I just hold the accelerator fully pressed until the oil light go out then lift off the accelerator completely, the car fires up as normal.
Just don't try it with a warm engine, apparently it will fire up on full revs
Would explain why I never managed to do the cold start procedure on my 9 as the average outside tmperature is 30°C,on tt boxes do you have to press the brake padal?Just don't try it with a warm engine, apparently it will fire up on full revs

On that video around 2:34 you hear the car being started but you can see from the rev counter that it is already runnng
I wasn't implying trickery at all - just something I noticed and assumed a result of editing.
Interesting though. So when you did the start with the fuel cut off the rev counter needle went up? I'll have to try that and see if mine does it. I didn't notice last time I did a start after a few weeks lay up.
