Tuscan rear number plate lights

I'm assuming they're not meant to be on permanently?

I'm assuming my battery will be flat in the morning?

Any ideas as to the problem or solution?

This might help, mine look on when the boot light is on and the boot lid not shut. More noticable at night. Just a thought.
