New test that predicts cancer risk
Discussion
Because you might choose to then have periodic screening or examine other possible interventions.
Most cancers kill you because they are found late and/or they spread. A significant proportion of them have a much better prognosis for your survival / life expectancy / quality of life if you can do something when it's localised and in early stage. Take bowel cancer for example. Catch it at stage 1 (unlikely in the normal course of things but more likely if you go looking for it) and five year survival might be over 90%. Leave it to stage 4 and it's down to less than 10%.
Some people might not choose to use the information of course - some prefer "not to know".
Agreed about the insurers though - they will be all over this news.
