Realistically, I am informed the top speed isn't far off whats quoted, some claim to have seen more!!
I've personally still been accelerating past 150mph on the speedo (say real speed 130-140) easily in my 2000 4.5. As to where to do this, Bruntingthorpe or similar where they have a two mile straight - time to get both up and down safely and no distractions, things happen fast at these speeds!!

At 150, your speedo wont be out by much, shouldnt be no more than max of 5.... at 165 upwards it gets a little silly... but in my first one I took her way past normal quotes.... of course that was fitted with a racelogic setup... but what really stops you from trying out how high it goes is the length of straightish line tarmac, and the heavy vibrations... and the wipers standing up vertically looking like they're gonna take off, and then the nuclear reactor engine sound at that speed!!!
