Car not on insurance database

I am thinking of buying a 1971 MGB GT. I have tried getting an insurance quote but they don't recognise the number plate.

Should this be a concern, I have spoken to DVLA and they confirm that the number plate does match an MGB GT but obviously wont give me any details.

I am probably worrying over nothing but is there any reason why a number plate wouldn't be recognised.

I would inform the owner and (assuming you're genuinely interested) say that you would require some clarification of identity come sale time.

Life's too short for buyers to do stuff like this, it is his problem if he wants to shift the car.

Is it actually in use on the roads, and taxed, MOT'd etc, or has it perhaps been off the road since the late Paleozoic era?

Whilst getting renewal quotes for my 77 mg, admiral wouldn't recognise my numberplate even when I rang them, however other companies did, I'd shop around a bit and see if if its the same with all companies

I know it's not classic but often online insurance forms won't recognise my Cabriolet plate. Perhaps to do with the fact it used to have a private registration? Or because it was first registered in Jersey. Nothing to be too concerned about OP.

I've had lots of cars not listed with online quote sites,but they were all Jap. imports.

I tried Admiral for a '77 Mini and they didn't recognise it so couldn't quote. The person I spoke to said saomething about not knowing Leyland and what type of Mini was it, a one or a cooper But then with Admiral I am not surprised, useless company.

insurance database is a database of insured cars ? used by the PNC cameras ??
if 1 insurance company dont recognise the reg i'd simply try another one that has direct access to the DVLA records?
