Hi Gang,

Quite a simple one for those in the know

BUT

Does anyone know where the layout of the coil packs is pictured.
Am trying to change a couple of my HT leads and it all looks like a black pile of spaghetti under the fuel rail and various other cabley bits.

Would like to have a clearer view before I start tugging in the wrong direction nono

Ta !

thumbup

Have found this but need photos, not graphics, to clarify the layout.

and while we're at it can anyone tell me what/where one of
these does/goes ??

Ta again wink

ignore the ebay link, no good.

The diagram you have is what i've used in the past and works very well.

What is it you don't understand about the diagram?

Yes ignore the ebay link. They are individual coils that plug straight to the spark plugs. I have them on my motor bike.
the right coils are listed in the alternative parts list if memory serves me correct.

With all due respect, if you can't follow the diagram a photo isn't going to help and you really should get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you.

Well, thanks for that.

I've been on this site for 8 years now and most of the posts I've made have included photos based on the old "worth a thousand".

You're totally correct Pater - I'm so dumb I shouldn't have bought a TVR - well, at least not out in a country where the Technical Support is less than Zero.

Have a wonderful Easter everyone thumbup

I did have a look for a photo both on the net and of all the ones I've taken but couldn't find anything.

Best way is to print the diagram and lay it in the right orientation ontop of the engine. Everything should then make sense

How about tippex?

Trace the lead you are changing mark it with paint / tippex take a picture so you know where it goes & change or remove one at a time.

Dont just rip them all out!

Unless you have nothing to do all weekend

If only you had posted a few days ago.. I had all my intakes off and fuel rail and all my leads are clearly labelled up.
That said I still put two back on back to front. DOH!!! lol

If I recall from my Magnecor leads, they're labelled one to eight and slightly varying length to account for the plug locations, leads 1&2 being the longest. Easy to match up up the lead to coil pack to plug from that diagram.

If that's the way you want to take it then that's up to you. I never said you were too dumb to have bought a TVR. And as far as I am aware membership of PH doesn't automatically confer the ability to read wiring diagrams.

Photos won't help much because of the location of the plugs and leads, a single photo can't show which lead goes where. The diagram is much much clearer. If you get the leads connected up wrong your car wont run hence me suggesting that you get help from someone who can follow the diagram. However if you are convinced it will help.

If you haven't taken the leads off yet, then just mark both ends of each lead and put them back on the same terminals/plug and if you are replacing them with new, do them one at a time. That way you don't need either a diagram or photo. If you have already taken them all off the the diagram is the answer, just follow it one connection at a time. The physical routing of the leads is entirely up to you, just make sure they can't touch against the exhaust manifolds.

Have a great Easter too! smile

It's quite likely that your leads won't be long enough to route around the back of the engine, mine certainly aren't, they just go over the cam covers.

Nooooo!! You don't have to take the fuel rail off to get to he HT leads. lol Mine was off as I was changing the alternator but would have given a good pic of the leads for you.
What is the job you are trying to do?

As luck would have it I DID take pics before changing the alternator. I forgot i usually do take pics as I work on things. Unfortunately they are the before I spruced the engine up a bit but should still help you out.

As you can see the firing order has been marked on the rocker cover. After clean up I numbered it on the coils and also the rockers so there were no mistakes in future.
But in your case as you are replacing your leads just do one at a time then you can't go wrong.

I am trying to change two HT leads.
Plug end off (eventually) but the Coil end disappears under the Fuel Rail

All in place:

Rail straps off:

The snakepit:

Snakepit close up:

and, as you can(not) see, I can’t see which lead goes where.

So I thought that if I took the rail off then I would be ableto SEE WTF I’m doing….hence my request for photos.

Actually mate I lost your phone no when my phone died last year so if you could text me on 00352 621 497 325 the I’ll ring you back for a chat about it (If you’re not too snowed under with the kids wink )

If you have the plug end off, just physically trace the wire back to the coil. It's tight for space and you need the hands of a 5 year old, but its doable.
