I have an overdrive Taimar which operates erratically. I have just bought from Rimmer Bros a new operating switch and the harness that threads through the gear lever. However the switch (identical to the existing) has flat contacts and the harness (as existing) has round tubular terminals.

Is there something I'm missing. The existing tubular connectors have been prised open into a U- shape to fit round the edge of the flat switch contacts. This is obviously a bit iffy. The parts are Spitfire in origin and I cannot conceive a major manufacturer installing a bodge like this.

Help would be appreciated.

Mine has small spade connectors as per pic. I would just snip off the bullets and re-crimp.

On that note, mine don't look too good! I would like to point out that it's not my work...

The round terminals are standard and side over the flat ones with the slot in the round terminal providing the grip.

Odd but there you go.

I made up my own similar to the pic above.

Thanks everyone. I got onto Rimmers who said that the harness should fit straight on as supplied. They are returning their stock to the supplier for rework. I have to cut back the insulation which goes right to the end and then squash the terminals into the u-shape of the originals. It still doesn't seem very clever.
