Hello All,

I noticed some trans fluid splatter coming through the gap outlined in the picture. Does this mean I have to replace the axle seal? What is involved to do that? I have only disconnected the drive shaft before but never went beyond that. What steps are after that in order to replace the axle seal?

Thanks in advance!!

Side plate off replace seal, if you have leaks on the other side of the box then it's the same but its diff out time.
If it's a G50 with LSD you won't have to worry about shimming so long as you put it all back in the same order. Not sure about open diff though.
Looks like a billet side plate, probably the same config as Porsche but I would speak to the side plate manufacturer just in case.

Probably unrelated to your oil leak problem, but the bolt on the right in the red box looks as if it's not parallel to the others. Is that a camera distortion?

Yes, that's a camera distortion. Keen observation though.

It only leaks on the left side. It's a G50 with LSD. CMS side plate. They said it is the same config as Porsche.

After removing side plate, will anything "pop" out that I won't know the orientation when reinstall? Any complication with replacing the seal? Do I drain the trans fluid first before removing side plate?

Nope. Surprisingly easy, drain oil, undo bolts and remove plate.

Can side plate be removed without removing the drive shaft first?

You do not need to unscrew the side plate in order to replace the seals.
You only need to remove the output shafts by removing their inner screws and pull them out.
After that you can access and pull out the old seals with a suitable tool.
The new seals just need to be pressed in position from outside with a hammer and a flat piece of wood or something similar.
After that you put back in the output shafts and reassemble the whole stuff backwards.
It is not difficult at all.

Andreas is right I had my plate off to get the pre-load on the LSD adjusted, I knocked the seals out from behind while the plate was off.

Thank you for the clarification Andreas. I will have a go at this now.
