There's no doubt about his passion to the industry.

To the laymen 'Joe Bloggs' reading/watching the news, he did come across as 'informed'. I think that's why the beeb let him have his say, however his lack of technical in-depth knowledge made him an embarrassment to many of us, as highlighted on pprune.

Respect to his passing but thankful I won't see him on TV again.

RIP.

You say that as though you consider yourself the definitive authority in all things aviation-related......oh, hang on.

It was just that it was his name was one I wasn't that familiar with. I definitely haven't seen that many books written by him. Maybe he mainly wrote newspaper articles.

And I certainly don't consider myself the definitive authority in all aviation matters. But I have read hundreds if not thousands of aviation books over the years and his was not a name I had come across.

Sounds like he'd have got on with Eric like a house on fire!

They'd have had endless hours of fun discussing the subtle nuances of exactly how a Merlin sounds completely different to a Griffon... wink

The one I see dragged out every time there's a prang is 'David Learmount Editor of Flight International'.

Very true. David Learmount is a very familiar face on TV. He was long time editor of Flight but is now retired and writes as a free lancer.

I always think he talks quite a bit of sense.

In the old days, the BBC used to have their very own "Air Correspondent". The best known were Charles Gardener and later Reginald Turnhill - who sadly passed away only a few months ago.

What's annoying about David Learmount. He always seems to know what he is talking about and does good work in deflating the sometimes rather dumb questions he is often asked.
