Cuts outs...Please help

I'm rebuilding my S1 and haven't put the dash in yet, tried starting it and it will only run whilst cranking, as soon as I release the key it cuts out, I think it's losing power supply to coil
Appreciate any help

Sounds like the coil ballast......

There is no power to coil ballast either

I am not aware of any cut-out,s on an S1, They are pretty basic. There could be a seperate fuse for running. Does the petrol pump keep running ?

Fuel system all working, the live to the coil disappears as soon as I stop cranking, where does the ignition control unit take its live from!

Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully confirm or deny this, but, I take the clue about dash not in yet, could this be linked to the rev counter problems of other people. Seems to need a wire connection via rev counter to coil to run.

I was thinking along the same lines, I can see on wiring diagram a wire to tachometer from coil wiring, but seem to remember starting car with dash out when I was stripping it, I may be mistaken, hopefully someone will put me straight

some kind of immobiliser? my S2 has one that behaves like this when not armed.

Where does yellow connector wire go?

The ignition module gets power from the ignition switch during cranking, black/green should be the wire colour, or red at the module. If you have a spark when cranking, the ballast resistor should be ok.

During normal running, the ignition module gets power from the rev counter circuit. You could hook up the rev counter or connect the white wire to the white/yellow wire for now.
