16 made, eight left.

This was a barn find in Arizona, hence the thread title: Lawrence of Arizona.

I appreciate all the work which has gone into iy, but for such a rare car (one of eight remaining) its a shame to subject it to the "fashion" of the VW scene.

When you menionned airlines and saw the rear camber/caster/whatever they call it, I thought...shame. Would be nice to see it as it was when new.

I admit I find the VW scene completely baffling.

The rat ride look is for now. The long term plan is to do a proper job on the body, eventually.

This car is talk of the town amongst v-dubbers.

The car was up for sale on the open market, there were no other bids so it's not like he deprived anyone of the chance to restore it.

Presumably even the experts who now own the original factory thought it not worth saving so good luck to the new owner. Maybe he will put it back to original one day, maybe not but he bought it fair and square and he can do as he pleases.

Fair comment and perhaps if he hadn't have bought it, who knows, that remaining eight could potentially have become seven.

It's a great find and doing a fantastic job of getting it back on the road. I appreciate the VW scene is not for everyone but great innovations and inspiration has emerged from it, ranging from the Cal look, resto-cal, rat-look and just general customising. Think how many of these cars wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for the energy and enthusiasm it brings. Personally I don't get the slammed and narrowed look, although a mild lowering is a must! Generally speaking, the VW scene is very tolerant of others and the type of rides they produce; this is something that should transcend personal preferences. Just as an example, I wanted to put 19" rims on my 911, and came on here to ask around. You'd imagine I was suggesting we lynch David Cameron....oh hold on.... and one even went into cheap jibes re socio-economic status!

If you check the camper thread you'll see my two 'different' previous VW's
Some things are OTT others are just 'cool', that, for me is stunning, but, too low and too tucked with the wheels but then that's the 'fashion' at the moment (without mandatory pipe and driving gloves) It'll disappear into one of the big VW collections around no doubt for a large 5 or 6 figure sum and get fully restored.
And as the previous post I'd agree the general liking for whatever you have and do is what I liked about the VW scene.
