The Proxes R-888 is one of the best track day and race tyres out there - its the control tyre for our Championship. When nearly new, its even half-decent in the wet. Their prices are quite a bit better than Demon Tweaks.
If you want something that's a bit less scary in the wet, consider the Toyo T1-R - I'm told they use the same compound as the road-legal R-888 and they're quite a bit cheaper.

Check out this thread for what are commonly referred to as 'List 1B' tyres (List 1A are normal road tyres). These are the tyres that, according to the MSA, are allowed to be used in various championships around the UK and in some cases Europe. They are also e-marked and road legal.
Some championships have a 'control tyre' which means everyone is on the same tyre, often in the same size too.

I think you might mean the Toyo R-1R. The T-1R is basically just a standard road tyre, albeit usually dirt cheap. People often rave about them (the T1Rs) but I had them on my MX5 and wasn't fond of them. Haven't tried the R1R though. At the moment I'm using Federal RSRs, which as track day tyres go are very cheap and I think they're great.
No problems in the wet, either.Valve Bounce Baz said:

As Shim says- for what use? http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/trackday/wheels-tyr...
888 not the best out there for track by a long shot.
I've used R888s,R1Rs and currently Yoko AD08s on my Alfa75.
R888 has great grip in the dry, not bad in the wet but horrible on the road, they whine like a wheel bearing's gone and the rides is very crashy. I also found that they wore quite quickly.
R1R was better as a road tyre and not much worse for grip, loads more refined and didn't give much away on the track but the tread blocks tore up quite badly.
The AD08 is very much like the R1R but doesn't wear at all. Less grip than the Toyos though but best all rounder if you use the car on the road too.

Not tried the Federals myself but have heard good reports.
I've been thinking about trying a set of Silverstone slicks next as I've got a second set of wheels for my track day tyres. They're currently shod in Yokohama AD08s which aren't going to last too many more track days and the slicks are £40 a tyre less expensive.
Anyone tried them?

T1-Rs don't last very long if you drive enthusiastically on track. They're cheap (so good for day to day road driving) but expensive if you go through a set every 1-2 trackdays.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
