Cayman Carnewal Exhaust

Just thought I'd post a quick review of the 'GT' Exhaust from Carnewal in Belgium.
As I thought there was a lot more potential from my Cayman's exhaust I did some research on this and other forums. The reviews for Gert Carnewal's work made the decision easier. I contacted Gert, who responded to all my queries and shipped the exhaust and Black double exhaust tip (well it would be rude not to!)
I got George McMillan at McMillan Porsche to fit it and do a minor service at the same time (well respected mechanic). I picked the car up and was expecting some subtle changes to the note. What I wasn't expecting was a transformation into a GT3 soundtrack! Unbelievable. That's all I can say. I drove home with the windows down, and smiled the whole way. My girlfriend had left after dropping me off and I soon overtook her. She couldn't believe the sound when I passed her, deliberately at 5000RPM - after a quick food stop I gave in to her demands and let her drive the rest of the journey home.
Cracking exhaust, no resonance, no tiresome drone at motorway cruising, just an awesome supercar soundtrack. I'm now in search of walled sections of B roads just to accentuate that amazing howl!

I have installed one of those exhaust on a Boxster and like you say I was just expecting a slight increase in sound...... Was not expecting a noise like a Ferrari going down the road full belt!
Very loud, not sure what it is like to live with everyday but blasting around for a bit it was really nice.

Performance wise it feels slightly quicker from standing start. No other noticeable difference in performance. The on board computer is showing a 2.3 mpg increase in fuel economy on a 28 mile round trip I regularly do (not driving like I'm qualifying for Monaco) So, it would appear that that amazing howl is saving me money!
I got the GT-mufflers fitted to my 987S a few years back and the difference is chalk and cheese. There's a lovely burble on the overrun and the occasional backfire to boot. A lovely, cultured note. Sounds like a Porsche should sound and the 100 cell cats allow for better breathing to release a few extra ponies (17 bhp according to Gert). A friend has a Cayman S with a PSE fitted but the Carnewal system has a superior sound in my opinion.....he agrees too.
He has since introduced the 200 cell system (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lwIG4GDoVQ) - the 100 cell is a bit louder and the tone is slightly higher.
As already explained, it works on a core exchange basis - the mufflers get sent across from Belgium and you have 4 weeks from the arrival date to send the original mufflers back. As long as your parts are in good working order, Gert will then refund the agreed amount. I stay in Glasgow and, to my surprise and delight, it cost less than £40 to courier back to Belgium. All in, just under £400 - fitting yourself will bring this down further.
There really is no better alternative for the money.

Can I raise the extended warranty question?
If this is a 'modified' OEM part, then can you get away with keeping a OPC warranty?
As general comment.
I had a Scorpion exhaust on my TTRS and found that there was better fuel economy when driving at normal pace into town.
Though much preferred the sound when on a nice quiet B road, raised lots of smiles.

It's going to invalidate your warranty. It's pretty obvious that even though it looks stock, it isn't.
IIRC it removes the secondary cats in the back boxes and does some re-plumbing back there. Your main cats in the manifolds are untouched. I compared emissions before and after and there was no change at all. I was a little worried about that I'll admit, but as long as it's properly warmed up, as it should be for MOT, it makes not a blind bit of difference.
It sounds bloody excellent. That little bit of drone you got from around 2300-2700rpm is still there, and it's louder, but it's not intolerable. On the motorway where you couldn't hear the exhaust before, you can now, but it's not louder than road noise. Stick your foot down however and it howls. A proper, exotic, flat six howl. It sounds right as it doesn't sound like an aftermarket exhaust (if you see what I mean).
I've found the opposite effect on my economy... Mainly because you'll hoof it around a lot more to enjoy the soundtrack.
I've not noticed any increase in performance. Nor would I expect anything noticeable really with a slightly freer flowing cat back system.
It is a bargain of the century at €400. So cheap I went the whole hog and booked a crossing and had it done by Gert himself, which I highly recommend. He's a top lad.

As I understand it, it only impacts on the exhaust regarding warranty, If you had an issue with the gearbox Porsche could hardly renege on the warranty because you have a modified exhaust.If this is a 'modified' OEM part, then can you get away with keeping a OPC warranty?

I am very interested how would I go a out contacting Gert? Does he have a website? Also do you mind me asking how much were u charged to fit the new exhaust and how much was it to ship the other exhaust back ? Sorry for all the questions. I can also highly recommend the Carnewal option. I brought Gert`s 996 replacement mufflers for my 996 Targa..Purchased by mail order for €500 a simple process & Porscheshop Halesowen fitted them for me. Really delighted with the sound of the car now...not too loud or intrusive but a proper flat 6 growl. Makes me drive everywhere with my roof open & I hardly ever use the stereo now!
I'm properly sold on the idea, I haven't heard a bad thing about the system. Most of my previous cars have all had really nice systems fitted and I think my porsche needs to follow that trend. My cooper S had Miltek manifold high flow cats and a full Miltek system and my vx220 was completely and utterly transformed by a Larini back box. I don't like the sound of the Miltek on the boxsters and as I say every thing I have read about the carnewal system and Gert is 100% positive.... Screw it I'm going to email them tomorrow at work

Your car was a little quiet before you had Gert do his wizardry. l won't be volunteering to change the next exhaust for you though....l will deffo leave it to someone else to cut off the rusty bolts!
