A common theme that seems to be prevalent is that the V8V lacks power, even the 4.7 is not overly endowed. Has anyone explored supercharging or turbocharging? I would have thought that supercharging may be a great option as the V8 is loosely based on the 4.0 litre Jag engine, the parts should be fairly easily available. - Discuss..

I think it's been discussed many times before and basically done to death. The Bamford Rose thread is well worth a read if you are seriously interested about power upgrades.

Sorry I have no evidence to back this up, however I seem to remember reading somewhere that the std v8 components couldn't take the over pressure and failed on the pistons.

I remember seeing some photos of a piston that had failed on the piston crown and leading edge on one side.

It might have been on the 6speedonline forum (ill check and update this post if I find it).

Pandora's hornets nest: Open

As mentioned above, there's been a fair amount of discussion on the topic, and the BR sticky has some good information. Unsurprisingly, the general consensus is that the route of staying NA and focusing on breathing and/or displacement (in the more significant projects) as the more reliable way to unleash more performance.

The reality is that nobody seems to offer a conversion that is proven to have undergone the development cycle required to give a critical mass of owners the confidence to go down this route. And the suppliers seemingly can't negate this risk by guaranteeing all engine components, not just the charger, cooler, pulley etc associated with the kit.

Having supercharged the Toyo 2ZZ in my Elise, I'm not anti-forced-induction, and Aston has set precedent by bolting 2 monster Eatons on the 90's Virage-based Vantage. But for something as special as an AM engine (a Celica engine is somewhat more readily replaceable!) I'd say using knowledgeable specialists to show what the existing units can really do is the more reliable route to take until FI is a proven and reliable option.

read the bamford Rose thread

plenty of extra power on offer, it just depends how deep your pockets are

its not like a diesel turbo where you can bolt on 40 bhp for £400 by post though smile

Was just looking through the wonderful pre-gaydon Aston pics on the photo thread just now.
What really struck me was the V600 Vantage.
Why can AM not (or have not?) produce a new V600???

A twin supercharged V8V! with a huge 5.0l engine! 200mph+, 0-60 in under 4 seconds etc etc. Something extra to the Vantage line-up that isn't a V12, (zagato etc).
But still with subtle looks of the current V8V...

(chap in his R8 pulls up beside at the lights..)
"oh it's ok honey" he smugly says to his Mrs...
"it's ONLY a V-EIGHT vanatge...it's no bother!"

Aston driver gives a slight grin but without the need to make eye contact..

BOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

600BHP from his twin super charged, lightweight, subtle looking MONSTER VANTAGE!!!!

(i'm smiling at the image of the guys face in his lil R8)....

laugh

It's more the set ups are bad, over heating valves and pistons
A mild 6 psi boost should be easily achievable with the right engineering (Jag use 6 psi on the 5.0 XKR)
Several have offered SC packages (4 that I know) none have really sold or proved the engineering
That's why I put my money in BR

I put a comprehensive & reliable 12psi SC on my S2000 which took it from 240BHP to 425BHP with no internal mods

Because they don't have a customer willing to pay for the development no holds barred.

Ahhhh. Yes that would make sense.
And factory building a super charged V8V makes no financial sense (to AML) unless say new regulations require fewer emissions?

It amazes me how Audi get 360bhp from a turbo charged 5 cylinder engine, getting the TTRS to 62 in 4.3seconds! AND has very low CO2s AND can return 35-40mpg!!!

Maybe the new Vantage (if there be one in the pipeline?) maybe a supercharged V8?

Anyway. Hijacking the OP thread here soz!
Breathing mods the traditional, massively discussed route is the best option.
