My S3c boiled over yesterday the cooling fan didn't trip in. I've shorted the wires out to try and identify if the otter switch is faulty but all I am getting is a clicking noise which appears to be coming from the footwell area. The fan moves freely when rotated any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd disconnect the fan motor, run two wires direct to the battery...

lots of spinney spinney motor ok

lots of sparky sparky motor dead !

Of course you could put a meter (or test lamp) across the two wires supplying the fan and check for voltage, if nothing check fuses. Clicky noise is probably the relay pulling in, does it click every time you join the otter switch wires together?

Sounds like dead motor or faulty wiring to the motor. Shorting the otter switch wires fires up the relay so that sounds like it is "probably" ok. As said before put a test lamp or multimeter in place of the motor and short out the otter switch again.
