Good morning,

I am woman on my own with no garage facilities and no great funds to play with but I would like to get back into motorsports again after a twenty year break.

To put this in context (and give away my age, ha) when I was in the SCCA here in the states, I used to autocross a stock Chevrolet Citation sucessfully against Corvettes.

I want to get back into autocrossing but my funds are limited. I can afford something under $30,000. What would you suggest and why?

Thanks!

Most of of are UK based, however I am very familiar with whats happening in the states as I'm looking to duplicate those events here in the UK.

Solo & Solo II are hugely popular & very competitive, along with Solo Miata, so named for obvious reasons.

There are a few clubs in the UK that organise Solos but as you are in the US there is very little info I can offer in the way of advice!

I think autocrossing is a little different in the UK than the US too!! Here it involves two cars on a circuit in a field racing against the clock!

The US appears to have an abundance of tarmac space where people dont mind others having a bit of safe, relatively slow fun in a car. In the UK this sort of thing is considered as bad as shooting the royal family and there are only a few suitable locations!

At the last Solo I competed in there was everything from an old VW Beetle, a few MK1/11 Escorts, a Porsche 912, a TVR Chimera and a Morgan Aero 8 taking part!

(I apologize for my last erroneous post. I guess my fingers are getting as old as my reflexes!)

Really, Pablo? I had always imagined the UK to be full of wonderful cars, drivers, and places to solo and autocross with no pesky, law suit happy spectators interfering.

So they won't let you block off a large parking lot on the odd weekend and let you have fun? How silly. Altough I have had a bit of fun on the streets, not getting caught and/or hurt, I realy think we could teach our youngsters more about automobiles and what they can and cannot do running solos and autocrosses than in any Driver's Education class ever taught.

You have to know your limits and your car's limits, and if we do not find them out in a relatively safe environment of the track, then there is always the tempation to find them out on the far more dangerous streets.

I have a nine-year-old and since my ex is an old Pro Rally'er and I cut my teeth on stock Chevrolet's, I know she will feel "the need for spped." Just another reason that I want to get back into it, to be ready to let her rip when the time comes to feel that glorious thrill of taking a corner knowing that the you have taken it to the best of your and your car's ability.
