Honda Civic and Gen 6/7 Accords
Discussion
This isn't for me (inspite of i putting up threads around PH asking about various car options for myself).
However...
Sister may be looking for a new to her car soon.
Shes thinking Jap (for reliability) so opinions on the above Hondas would be much appreciated.
Usual sensible type questions - what are they like on fuel, reliability (are they really as good as people say) and what are they like to drive etc.
When asked what cars she was thinking - she mentioned Mitsubishi Carisma - can i safely assume the Hondas will be a vastly superior all round package - or am i completely overating the Hondas.
Not sure what way the Gen numbers are on the Civics - so all thoughts welcome on the 2 pre 06 Civic generations that were on sale alongside the gen 6 and 7 Accords.
Thanks guys
Sir Fergie

They're all very reliable. Its all depending on age and budget. I mean, to me, the interiors on any of those cars are really, really aged. The price of some of those civics and accords can get you a newer and just as reliable car, cept not a Honda.
If Honda is the way you want, then go for it. But if your open to more than just Honda then give us the budget and the age of the car you would maximum at. I love the shape of the EK9 Honda Civic and the 6th gen Accord is a beautiful looking car. If she can afford a 7th gen Accord; then I'd go for one of them.
But really, if you can give us all more information like Budget, Intention of the car (will she be modding it or just wanting a standard car for everyday life), any restrictions due to insurance, be much easier to help you mate!

Ive had a few and still own a couple of Hondas.
I too like them for their reliability and in most cases their simplicity.
I sold my CL9 Accord (04) last year due to my business, but really liked it. Wheel speed sensors fail at 80k. Diesels suffer from DMF failure and clutches can slip if remapped. 17" alloys made from toffee and buckle easily.
Economy wise Hondas aren't really that impressive. My 1.4 Civic 5 door at best gave mid 40's usually mid 30's round town.
Ive replaced it with a 1.6 aerodeck which seems on rough calculations a little better. 1.5 Vtec is possibly the most economical.
Build wise, the UK ones were a little less well built than the Japanese varieties, though they were still better put together than the majority of British cars at that time!
If you do go the Honda route make sure it has a decent service history, belts etc. The Jazz (and some other models with the same gearbox) suffer input bearing failure which can be between £600 - £1000 to put right. You hear a noise in first pulling away and depressing the clutch at idle - stopping the input shaft spinning - can silence the noise.
Make sure it has not been modified - If the ad says "VTEC controller" - avoid!
Reliable if a little bland but comfortable and well put together.
