Hello,
Has anyone seen the offer at halfords for oil this Easter?
My s1 is ready for coming out of hibernation and I was going to review the prices for the Mobil 1 15w30 from halfords especially with the 30% offer........problem is as my engine has covered 112k and I am slightly worried about the oil pressure as I have used Mobil 1 in the past and it felt very 'thin through the fingers (if this is any calibrated test) !
I heard that the 2.8 engine should be able to cope with oil pressure of 50lb pressure- but does this make sense to anyone or am I overly worried and just get need to get my hand in my pocket?
Alternatively, I am thinking of getting oil, filter, fuel filter, plugs and air filter from one of the specialists and giving the car a service before the season........can anyone recommend a supplier to order a wider range of bits from on-line?........I am based in South Yorkshire if that makes a difference.
You opinions and feedback are appreciated........spending limited money is important to me- especially at the minute !!

This engine dates back a long way and was designed to run with the somewhat higher viscosity oils commonly used then. Bearing clearances, pump performance etc were designed accordingly. Things are very different on modern cars. As mine is a late 80's car I go for a late 80's oil, 20/50 mineral which several firms make as a 'classic' oil. For the amount I use in a year I am happy to pay a little more.
This is not a high oil pressure engine, it was originally designed for a fast van! I get 50 psi when cold or at high revs but dont be concerned if it drops much lower under normal use and even as low as 5psi at tick over hot. Be concerned if it goes well over 50, doesnt build up with revs, or you notice any significant change

On the other question I asked, does anybody go for a single point of sale to get their parts from for the S? Is there a 'dealer' or shoip where the major service items can be purchased from ata reasonable cost without having to trawl around several vendors?

Oil filter, fuel filter and plugs from somewhere like Euro CarParts , GSF CarParts, or your local Motor Factors but you'll have to ask for bits for a 2.9 Granada, I very much doubt their system will list an S series TVR.
Air filter is washable so unless its started to perish and deteriorate that should be ok.
If you do want to replace it here's one.
If you're doing the valve clearances and want to replace rocker cover gaskets it's worth trying to get genuine Ford ones, getting a bit scarce now but better quality than most of the after market ones.
I buy oil when I see it on offer and keep it till I need it. The oil filter I generally get from Halfords on trade, the code is HOF241.
Have used carparts4less a few times, deliveries actually come from Eurocarparts but are substantially cheaper. Having said that they screwed up my last order and still not sorted it.

As I am currently adjusting rockers and replacing gaskets, the genuine Ford gaskets @£14 the pair, come with the moulded in spacers to avoid over tightening and the adhesive face so the gasket can be fixed to the cover and stays in place when rummaging amongst all the cables and pipes on re- fitting. Local motor factor for the service items though.

I got mine from the local ford dealer, via their regional parts dept. I think it very much depends on who you get to tak to though - someone who was about when the XR4 / Ganada Scorpio was out is really helpful.Thanks for your help so far!
