I am thinking of getting another Land Rover. Had a Disco 3 until recently and the wife misses it, as do I now we have a baby and all of the paraphernalia that comes with it...don't like to go backwards though...so I am thinking a FFRR. An Evoque is just too small...a freelander is too basic...a RRS is just a Disco...so all roads point back to FFRR.

I want a diesel, max £35K, as new as possible, so an early 2010 is about do able and if franchised or 'approved' ought to still come with a years warranty, as a 2011 would. However, having being a little burnt in terms of reliability with the Disco, I am a little wary of another Land Rover. I can live with the fuel and tax, I did with the Disco!

How do the 3.6 litre 2010's fare on reliability...are there any known issues, are there any big service bills at 3/4 years or 50000 miles or so? A google search on problems has revealed little. Might it be worth waiting 6 months until 4.4litre engines drop to my level?

We have just sold our 2010 / 60 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE from the lease fleet, it had a lower mileage at just 33500. It went to a trade source for £38500 so values are holding up well still.

Other than a recalibration of the suspension and 1 set of tyres, plus normal routine servicing, it has not had any issues. We also have 2 x Evoque, 5 x Discovery, 3 x RRS and a further 2 x FFRR from a early 2011 on the fleet currently. None have caused any particular problems, all have just had routine servicing etc. and had a couple of minor faults checked (normally sensor faults).

As always, a thorough check of the car to make sure it has been well looked after and regularly serviced, and a good warranty, whether from the dealer or bought yourself, and all should be well.

The cheapest 2010 car currently on the Land Rover used car website is £33995, and there are around 48 3.6 TDV8's on there, so there should be plenty of choice, and opportunities to deal.

wait until you can get the 4.4 TDV8

the 3.6 is so much a 'lesser car' than the 4.4V8

though i'm a petrolhead looking for a new(ish) 5.0l supercharged - i've got to admit that the 4.4 V8 diesel is a superb engine - in fact never heard a bad word said about it which in LR circles is amazing!

The wife has had her 3.6 TDV8 since new in 2010 and covered 30,000 faultless miles, very reliable as far as we are concerned.
It is a superb beast that eats up motorways and British winter snow with ease.

As above, the wife has had a 2010 MY Range Rover Vogue since October last year. It is used as our practical / family / luxury car and so far there has not been a situation (from tip runs, to covering 000's of motorway miles, to taking the in-laws to a posh restaurant) that is has not excelled in.
