Annoying Whine - Listen, and tell me what you think please..
Discussion
It becomes evident half way through (about 15 seconds) when it stops it's because I am dipping the clutch - it come on positive power application; so I'm thinking gear box or drive shaft... Or perhaps it left the factory like that.

I have a rear rumble-grind noise too
Hear it is at very low speed, clutch down - when driving you only really hear it a very low speed with the hood on... It doesn't change with speed or revs or anything that I can tell.
Annoying GrindWhirr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMlVoktFLcA&
Should I worry? Does it sound expensive ?

Isaac,
Listened to the first clip three times and that sounds very much like my 400.
I get more of a whirring noise under acceleration and actually quite like the sound, it's
done that as long as I have had the car, eight years.
Never tried to work out if it's linked to dipping the clutch because it just sounds like a rotating equipment whirring sound to me.
I've listened to the second clip twice and can't identify the grind / whirr.
Seems to be mostly wind noise so I can't add anything constructive.

Thanks for the reassurance guys! very much appreciated indeed!
Just to be sure (to be sure) regarding rear noise (which doesn't get picked up well on phone) I have just returned from Austec in Crawly where one of the chaps took it round the block - and reported two bad noises...
Slight popping from the manifold (Which I hadn't even notice <shameface>) and the rear noise... which he said simply wasn't right and needed looking into - diff or bearings he said; but will need to get the stethascope out to locate.
I'll try and make a better sound recording - it's very noticeable indeed with the roof on in the dry...
My budget was 11, bought for 9 so I have a little reserve - I want be sure before I take her on long distance summer runs!
Edit: Also, I mentioned out that in good 2nd hand car fashion, I have given the wheels a damn good wiggle to check the bearings (I recall buying a B reg Maestro back in '93 which has a bearing gone and that wheel wobbled proper good and sounded like it was lubed with glass and sand...) however it turns out that bearings can still be shot and not wiggle. always learning, eh?

In my considerable experience; you are absolutely correct!
OP; apologies for my earlier less than helpful expression of personal culinary preferences

As others have said above, the sound in the first clip is not out of character for a Chimaera.
TVR spent a good deal less time and money on shielding it's customers from the sounds of engine, gearbox and axle, than most manufacturers. They always have a somewhat raw sound overall and it's also part of the reason they are so light. Try riding in an older Elise sometime, they were even worse in some respects.
Unless a 'knowledgeable someone' has a listen to the actual car and tells you otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.
