Mondeo ST24

Always a fan of budget v6's i took the head staggers last week and bought this 2000 Mondeo ST24 with 99K miles off gumtree for £400. No MOT but came with a fail sheet from last December needing a rear strut, a CV joint and two new copper brake pipes. Parts supplied with the car (all new) but not fitted.

Not sure if the ventilated discs all round are standard and it also seems to have an upgraded exhaust system and an induction kit. Also has a quad headlight kit fitted too.

It turns out the car needed 2 front springs too, a couple of bushings and all 16 wheel nuts were seized on so needed a lot of heat to get them off.

So, £160 for the MOT prep, £20 to 'refurb' the alloys in anthracite metallic with some rattle cans (+ one days effort), £35 for a valet, and its ready to go!

Stands me around £650 all in.

Looks very nice indeed at that price! Although I'd agree with you on the Halfrauds thing, would lose the lights and possibly spray the wheels silver, only when they needed the refurb though! Bangernomics at its best.

I had a Ghia X with the same engine - it was quite a good car TBH. Does the rear valance have the OEM split?

Great car & great price I used to have a panther black ST24 back in 2000 & more recently owned a V6 Ghia X aswell lovely engine in these, they do come with vented discs on the rear as standard, enjoy that smooth V6

Looks great for the cash but I think they may have fitted 1.6 or diesel springs? Seems to ride high!

The front drivers side has just had its wheel put on in that pic so hence on that side its sitting a bit higher than it will be when it settles again.

Plus the springs are brand new and have literally done 1 mile since fitting.

Yeah the headlights dont really do it for me.

Wasnt sure what colour to do the wheels. I was a bit concerned about doing them silver as they're relatively big and i thought they might be a bit overpowering in bright silver.

Yes, well pleased. I love a v6 or straight six.

I'd 3 330i coupes last year and a couple of S Type jags. None of them dangerous money particularly the jaguars

Air used to get under the rear and split the under bumper tray.

Years ago I bought an ST200 and it came with the morette twin lights. Was never sold on the looks, but in comparison with the standard lights they were brilliant at night. Used to be quite sought after... might help the balance sheet if you want to sell them.

That looks good for £650, 6 cylinders as well.

Also there is no duct tape on the bumpers, I was b3gining to think they all came with it as standard.

The ST's don't seem to suffer as bad for some reason, RSAP stuff must be made of better plastic!

This. You see lots of Mondeo's of that era sporting duck tape on the rear valance. Mine has a new one fitted under warranty.

This. You see lots of Mondeo's of that era sporting duck tape on the rear valance. Mine has a new one fitted under warranty.

Think there was a Ford fix (assume TSB, rather than recall) where they fitted a metal clip to the middle of the rear bumper.

How about halfway house between what you have now and silver? Already seems like they are a dark anthracitey colour rather than black, maybe a lighter mix of that would go well?

I don't think they would look that bad completely silver tbh though, chuck it on a photoshop thread here and see what you get.

Maybe you should get some silver duck tape just for the hell of it...

Wow that didn't last long! I test drove a V6 Cougar when I was looking to buy my ST24 but everyone I mentioned the Cougar to ripped me to pieces so I bottled buying it...but I do still like them though.

Wow that didn't last long! I test drove a V6 Cougar when I was looking to buy my ST24 but everyone I mentioned the Cougar to ripped me to pieces so I bottled buying it...but I do still like them though.

I have the cougar for peanuts as its got an intermittent immobiliser issue. Hopefully it can be bypassed easily. I've a friend whos into that sort of stuff - does it full time actually.

I've an option on another ST24 too. Silver, 5 door, 100K miles, totally standard this time, mint, long MOT and TAX for £700. Going to go see it again on wednesday night and maybe see if i can get it for £600.

Managed to get the other one. Came with a spare set of Ford alloys which i'm going to stick on gumtree for £120.

Bought the car and the spare alloys came free with it for £650

If i can get the alloys sold for £100, then this lady will be standing me £550.

Long MOT and TAX.
