ok guys question for you all, I'm 17 and my dads got a Geep thats been sitting in his garage for about 3 years, I started it up the other day and its running fine, mechanically its sound but needs some cosmetic work as at the moment its a little shabby looks wise...anyway, hes said that if i promise to look after it and if i can get it insured i can have it...i passed my test about 6 months ago...so I'm guessing the insurance is gonna be pretty high, but I'm going with my mom as the named driver if I can. Anyway, i was just wondering if anyone knows roughly how much I'll be looking to fork out...thanks

Hi Dan
Suggest you phone Adrian Flux or Footman James asap and put us all out of our misery.
Cheers

Logibear here
If you are going to use the GP - then
you just have to pay the price for being young.
Shop around - like IanA suggested - I use Adrian Flux.
Think about a policy with limited miles etc. as you probably will not do that many miles over the bad weather ( borrow your Dad's car when it is raining or buy him a "Biggles hat and goggles for his Xmas )
An old type Ford engine is good to learn the basic's on
Good luck ( I wish I was 17 again )

haha thanks guys, I'll give them a ring on wednesday seeing as I got the day off college then. I'll tell you how much after I phone up, I'm guessing its gonna be a lot but then again its not exactly a standard 1 litre fiesta so it aint exactly gonna be the cheapest, oh well...

hi there Dan! this may rest your mind a little bit.....Im 21 and i have been a very naughty boy with regards to my licence in the past! i have er......a "few" points on my licence and was dreading the insurance on my geep but i was amazed when i found out that its almost half as cheap as a normal "boring" car!! after my ban had finished i got a quote for a 1.0 fiesta at the cost of almost £2000 on 3rd party only!!!!!! then i rang and got a quote with adrian flux on my geep! i only pay £640 fully comp!! quite a large difference im sure u'l agree!! and lets face it a geep is much more possy than a poxy little fiesta or nova anyday innit!! well all the best

Try graham Sykes, I get mine for about £100 TPFT (BUT I am over 50) only cost a phone call to ask.

0870 444 6330

When I looked around they were a lot cheaper than everyone else I tried, and at the time Norwich Union wanted about £450 for the same cover.

Good luck

You really do need to get the yellow pages out - or try the links you have from the rest of us, forget the high profile companies - they don't want young drivers.

failing that ring the brokers in the back of Max power, play one off against the other - you will be amazed at the discounts you can get

You'll find that Companys don't like to insure kit car drivers under the age of 25, and only afew companys that are 21+ ..

1600 TPTF is a good price, but did you say you want to drive a kit car on your mums insurance, not just any other car !

Graham Sykes Insurance is the cheapest for me, but age may have more to do with that.
On a cautionary note, we used a company to insure my wifes (now gone, yipee!!!) modified xr3i caby and discovered that on cancelling the insurance policy ,we had a great big fat wad of money to pay as they had taken out a loan to cover the full ammount of a years insurance and we had to pay them the outstanding balance to cover the loan. Our fault its all in the small print, but i think this practice is rare.

As hard as it may be, a rusty fiesta might be a better bet for your first couple of years insurance wise.
Insured by yourself rather than through your mum will get you on the no-claims bonus ladder.
