I recently had 60K service done at the dealer on my 1988 turbo-look cab. Since then the 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd shift has been very stiff when engine is cold. Once warm the transmission shifts better. The car shifted perfectly and smoothly (hot or cold) before the service. I talked to the service manager and he said to expect stiff shifting for a while until the new transmission fluid "breaks in" a little. Over the last 1000 miles the shifting has definitely improved but still not as good as before. I have heard that a gear lube made by Swepco makes the 915 transmission shift better. Will this help my G50 transmission? What else could it be?

Did they fiddle with clutch?

Maybe it's coincidence and synchro is wearing.

Could be oil, but this 'breaking in' talk sounds suspicious. Then again I do know very little about mechanical things and I am suspicious by nature

They did not adjust clutch. I asked them about using Swepco gear lube and they said that it may help and that the previous owner of the car may have had Swepco in it. They recommended that I try it. I have heard that Swepco really makes a difference in the Porsche 915 transmisssion but haven't heard of anyone using it in the G50. It is true that it could be my synchros and be a coincidence, but it shifted so well before the service. The car shifts ok now when the car is warm, just not as smoothly so I worry that the synchros will wear quicker.

Very strange

I hate it when cars come back from dealers feeling worse than when they went in
