There doesn't seem to be a lot of point in saving money in the bank at present - if Europe doesn't come along and nick it from you, it doesn't even keep up with inflation - so I've decided to try an alternative approach - putting money into cars which might (hopefully)increase in value, while also being able to enjoy them.
Here is my first effort - an Alfa 155 Q4.
It's like a small time capsule - a nearly brand-new 1993 model, which spent it's first 16 years owned by Alfa Romeo for use at shows etc. It has a fully documented 20,912 km (about 13000 miles) and is like new inside and out.
Virtual beer to the poster who gets closest to the price I paid for it!

I've got a folder of documents from Alfa detailing every maintenance, MOT, etc. etc. with mileage (km - I'm in Belgium). Some years it only did 100km! It's brand new, inside and out.P.S. LADANIVA is closest so far - I'll post the exact amount tonight
about 15 grand based on this one.....

Lovely motor and i always wanted one (bought a 156 instead as couldn't find a good one with the quick rack at the time) but you will need to keep that a while before you see a decent return on investment i would think.

The only one on the trader is £600, albeit a 1.8 and with 116k, but it looks tidy enough to me. For the length of time it will take for values to go up substantially on 155's i would suspect it is probably the wiser investment from a ROI basis.I paid €6200 (it was originally advertised at €7500), so roughly converted that's £5250. I'm expecting about €1000 costs on top - I'm changing all fluids and belts (apparently the timing belt is an engine-out job), but it was last done in 2006, so I think I'll get it all done now, before I start playing.

That's why I bought it. I have been looking at the older Bertone GT Juniors/GTV's, but anything decent is getting expensive, and I've already got a couple of summer-only classics. I'm not too confident however - in the past I've had the chance to buy a fully-sorted Mk I Escort and an E30 M3 at bargain prices, and didn't do it.

Funnily enough I thought that at first, although they look much better in real life than in photo's.I've got the 4 original wheels also, but the tyres are shot.
I was planning on getting the originals on ASAP, but the black wheels are growing on me, plus the tyres are nearly new.

The Q4 is a rare and fairly desirable car. A bog standard 1.8 155 for £600 is more than likely going to be a fairly unloved banger for the rest of it's life.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
