from memory the 991s is faster slightly ,an american mag tested a pdk model of each ,I think the 997gts was 0-100 9.4 or 9.7 and the 991 s 8.4,both very rapid and more than enough for uk roads.

Engine/exhaust note alone is worth going 991 and don't see why a 997 GTS would ever be worth more than a 991?

991 is such a big jump from any 997 I've been in

One of my 991 test drives was back to back with a gen2 gt3 and the 991 was as fast in a straight line,it is a truly fast car

This.

I'm amazed that there seems to be an overlap in pricing between the 997 GTS and the 991. Dealers are putting the 997 GTS in the 991 section of the classifieds as if they are somehow comparable. For the same money, the 991 is just flat out better value. 997 GTS is well overpriced for what it is IMHO

On paper the GTS and 991 C2S appear very similar, performance wise.
However, In reality the 991 C2S feels considerably quicker.

I would say the 991S feels subjectively faster but bigger, and I actually thought the 997 GTS felt more 911esque to drive, which is still a big appeal.

Fortunate enough to have owned both and would agree with the above apart from the use of the word 'subjective', the 991 is quicker objectively.

But surely you should consider the inside of the car. Its such a massive jump. It feels and looks better. Still unsure why the GTS is at a high value. Doesnt make sense.
