Wedge or Chim?

Hello Peeps, browsed on this TVR section on and off over the years and am now thinking maybe it's time to buy one.
Have owned various 4 pot Turbo cars in the past and I am now thinking maybe it's time to scratch that V8 itch I have harboured over the years.
Was very close on buying a 1990 400SE Wedge back in the early oo's but it wasn't to be due to unforseen circumstances. I can still remember that awsome sound when I took it for an hour or so test drive!
Seen some nice Chim's for sale at quite reasonable money of late but I also still love the Brutal look of the Wedge...
As maybe a TVR newbie any help off you knowlegeable Peeps would be very much appreciated! Wedge or Chim ????

Having owned several V8 TVR's (and having driven a Chim for a few weeks as well) I would say go for the Wedge. I currenly have a 450SE as well as a 4.5 Cerb. Whilst they are totally different driving experiences each one dishes out equal amounts of pleasure.
I would say Wedge based on rarity, shape and THAT noise. My 450 sounds absolutely fantastic and turns far more heads than the Cerb!

All down to taste, the chimeara/ cerbera were the cars around when i passed my test, and those I drooled over at the motorshows. So I always wanted one. Born 10 years earlier probably would want a wedge.
just buy one, I waited too long before taking the plunge.... God they are fantastic.
what u get with all is presence, great community, noise and sense of occasion!.. And they shift a bit too!

I was in a similar situation about 6 weeks ago when I wanted to purchase my first TVR.
I grew up in the 80’s and for me, the Wedge was THE car when I was growing up. I really wanted one.
Then I looked at one about 6 weeks ago and it wasn't for me. I was really disappointed. It wasn't the car, it was a fantastic series I 350i in white. Perfect. However, my tastes had changed from when I remembered them.
I then looked at Chimaeras and instantly it felt 'right'.
I'm certainly not saying go with a Chim; what I'm saying is go and look at a few and choose the model with your heart. Once you know what version of TVR you want, then chose with your head (in particular chassis and camshaft).
Good luck and show us the photos when you get one.

A good V8 S will cost you. It seems to me, although I don't keep a close eye on them, that good wedges are appreciating too.. Think I'd tather go for the rarer, more individual car but if you prefer the Chim??..I bought a V8 wedge as my first TVR as at the time I could only afford a V6 s or not afford a chim. The styling was something that grew on me, the sound was awesome. I later had a period where I was going to use the TVR as a daily drive and the choice was to either spend time and money doing some tidying up of the wedge and trying to make it waterproof, or buy a more modern TVR,I ended up with a chim 4.5.
Whilst they had similarities the differences were significant. Firstly the chim was pretty waterproof, and had less rattles. The next biggest difference was the handling, the chim felt much more sure footed and less tail happy. I always attributed this to the difference in weight distribution with the engine and drive train being shoved much further back in the chim. Either way it took a bit more provoking to get the back out. Also the brakes on the chim as standard are superior. After one track day in the wedge the first thing I did was upgrade the brakes, the chim managed several on standard items.
Obviously the interiors are very different, the wedge feeling to me a little more kit car(ish) for want of a better description. I is however a lot easier to stow the roof on a wedge than a chim or griff.
Having said all that I would love to have a late 400se wedge. I saw one this weekend in the peaks and it looked and sounded stunning. I think as the shape is so far from what we are used to seeing these days they stand out even more.

Chat to the owners, look for the problems and foibles, ask politely and you might get a good look see around them.
