Tuscan Challenge 4.5 Rover engine for sale?
Discussion
Does anyone know of a genuine 4.5 rover engine for sale; dry sump, iceberg crank, challenge block etc. Dellorto 48s would be great but appreciate that they are difficult to get hold of. It would be going in a road Griff.
I saw this advert on the for sale section, which would have been ideal but guess that it is an old advert (I have tried to contact the seller but without luck)
Also available separately, Rover TVR V8 engine. This is a fully rebuilt proper 4 bolt engine with Dry sump pump, pan and tank, Quad Dllerotos etc. This is a superb engine and a genuine bargain at £5250. 07826657924
I have been looking at building one from various individual second hand parts but it is difficult to make the figures stack up.
Many thanks in advance. Peter

After our chat I had long conversations with Chris at Devon, John Eales, Jason etc. The block we were chatting about does need three liners. Also, without the dry sump, pan etc, converting it really needs the new JE front cover and all the pulleys / balancer, block work etc. The block also has 1/2 inch head stud holes but the heads take 7/16 studs so there is work there opening up the head stud holes (although I guess you could commission a set of specially made studs). In fact JE was adamant that he would not build me an engine using a second hand tuscan challenge block and he has lots of them. The block he suggested to use for a 4.5BV road car producing around 330 brake (sacrificing outright bhp for torque) was just under £1000 new. His thoughts were that it was the strongest and most accurate block. The heads we mentioned were BV but not necessary matched to what I was trying to achieve. So if I was just starting out with different pieces from different engines, it would be better to buy new, albeit it would have to be JE steel rods rather than Carrillo which obviously are top draw and very expensive. There are other things and it all adds up and having spent a lot of time trying to learn what is needed, the best way was to find a complete engine.
Thanks again, good luck with the season.

There was a reply on this thread yesterday from a guy saying that 'his hasn't sold yet'. I checked his profile and he seemed to have had just about every TVR! It included a 450 wedge and Tuscan Challenge. I emailed him to follow up on the engine, via his profile, but for some reason his and my thread have disappeared and I didn't get a copy of the email in my inbox. Any idea who that might be. He must be very well known on here but I can't find his profile? Or, I am going completely mad

Thanks in advance for any help. Peter
The Challenge engine Mr Tank has for sale is a brand new dry sump AJP8 , not the Rover unit that you're looking for, unfortunately.

Hihttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Yes see advert for my AJP engine in the listings atthe top of the page!
I am open to sensable offers!
Were else are you going to find a Brand New AJP V8 dry sump race engine which has never been fitted or run in a car! It was bench tested at the factory before it left there in 2005 (I beleive) and has been a center peice in a front room till I decided to put it on disply with my collection of cars at shows beside my Tuscan last year!
At present it has a set of road car manifolds (Cut to fit) and a set of stainless water pipes from a road car, both of which would be removed before the engine is Sold. I do have a complete challenge car exhust system to go with the engine if require!
