Prone to picking up screws in the tyres?
Discussion
My 997TT has just had a visit to local OPC for wheel alignment and they’ve discovered a screw in one of the rear tyres. No big issue except that this is the 5th time in 12 months. There’s no screws lying around at home (in fact DIY is one of my least favourite things) and I can’t see any building work etc going on locally. I’m reaching the view that someone must be doing it deliberately. Are these cars prone to picking up screws etc?

Worth having a look before you set of from your drive for placed screws very close to the tyre !
...if the car lives outside. Or get into the habit of having a cursory glance outside your garage for screws. I don't think a Porsche should be more prone to punctures than any other car under normal circumstances.djohnson said:

You've got a jealous neighbour .Just get one of these and repair them yourself http://www.dynaplug.co.uk/ got me out of trouble last year abroad with a few hundred miles to go.
..It happens more often as the tread depth gets lower, on new rubber and 8mm deep grooves the chances are screws / nails can wedge themselves in the gaps, if you're on low tread depth they have no where to go but making a hole.., it's a lottery, I've not done a windscreen in 25 years motoring, and done 3 new ones in the 996 in 8 months..!

Personally I think 911's are more prone to punctures through screws / nails. Reason I say this is a that I had 2 punctures on my 997 C2S which I owned about 9 months, and I've had 3 on my GT3 in about 2 years. All in all 5 punctures in around 2.5/3 years. When I spoke to the RAC man last time, he said its the most common reason he gets called out on 911's. He said the narrow front track flicks up the debris and the wider rear wheels/track catch it. Sounds plausible I think. Both the C2S and GT3 were kept in different locations, the thought of jealous neighbours etc crossed my mind, but I've heard so many 911 puncture stories now I think other factors are more likely.Rrroro said:

Thanks that's worth carrying in the car just in case. Triple7 said:
I declined tyre insurance when I bought mine, my biggest regret. Would have paid for itself after 2 months. Never had a puncture ever in my life til I got the 911. So far I've had 2 & now I see a nail in my new rear.
I took out tyre protection when i bought my new R8 V10 (2 years back) and got 3 punctures over that time due to nails only to then 'forget' i took out the protection in the first place (yes very stupid!!!)...
Anyway, got rid of my R8 for a new 997 Turbo S Cabriolet just last month & took our protection again, expecting similar punctures for reasons said above in this thread, only this time i wont forget i took it out
