A while back Andy asked if i'd be interested in helping out if an owners club was to start, i havent done anything as such as yet but would there be enough interest ?

at the moment i think it would just be a way of keeping in touch and doing the odd event etc, nothing too complicated, but thought it best to at least see if any interest, was even thinking if enough could we approach PH about possibility of our own specific forum place here?

Andy has organised a trackday with Javelin in June for us all which is a great meet up, but how about something more for us lucky owners?

I would work on getting your own forum on here.
Works well for us as an Ultima owners club.

yea was thinking that a small /not much traffic club specific forum wouldnt be soo good, at least PH has a vast amount of traffic and other interesting stuff for people. i used to run a car club with upto 800members at one point and even then the forum wasnt always lively.
cheers

ps Steve, if i may, did you just contact the mods on here and ask about a specific section for yourselves?
there was/is a section for GD on the cobra owners club site but always got the impression they didnt really want GD owners on there as its a paying club

Hi Chris
I would be interested in a owners club and/or a forum for GD. I don't think we have enough numbers for a T70 only forum and we don't appear too welcome on the Ultima one despite the cars similarities as the last post from the Dutch owner was moved!

yea thats what i was thinking, was a similar story for me on the cobra owners forum, the T70s were never really made welcome as we were not paying members of their club.

i think andy was thinking along the lines of an easier way for us all to keep in touch be it cobra or T70 as he emails everyone on a bulk mail list for the trackday/meet etc, but obviously people may change email/not read etc, and this would be a way to get to know each other.

i know very few of the UK GD T70 guys myself, despite having had the car 4 yrs now, and there were only 3 of us on track at the last GD trackday, the rest being cobras and the odd ultima etc who were very welcome

will see if the mods might consider a GD section on here.
cheers

The Ultima section was here before my time so am not sure how it started.
Why not contact Stig who is the Mod for the Ultima section so may be in a better position to help your cause.

Go to the cobraclub site; as you say, it has a GD section, and although there is a lot of banter on the whole site, its good natured, and a nice bunch of people.
I think you will find more GD owners on there than in any other single place on the web?
It's free to join, and seems the most logical place for you to find likeminded owners (both GD and otherwise)
I am on there, as I am a serial Cobra owner; same user name
Be lucky

hi steve
have been on there before, got a bit peed off with one of the mods tbh always having a pop when we posted info about GD trackdays as initially they were for GD owners only then opened up for all.
one guy was always twitchy about GD T70s by the look of it, purple someone or other was user name lol! deffo not made to feel welcome on there so stopped posting.

this would be its own specific thing, tied in with andy at GD, ok it might not have thousands of members but would allow us to keep in touch and the like.

As Steve_D has said, your own forum on here would be a good place to get interest. I was involved in the Ultima OC back about 12 years ago. It was very difficult and the forum on here just slowly took over. Now it is the place where everything gets started. We even get the Factory posting occasionally.

I would suggest a PM to Garlick or Stuart.

Hi Chris

There are currently 3 T70's being built in the South East I'm in Kent and 2 are in Sussex and I think another was collected last week I have been in touch with all of them and don't mind passing info on as I'm not sure how frequently they visit here if at all. I think getting 4 to a track day is a good turn out given there are so few worldwide.

Hi Phil, Chris, et al.

T70 collection last week was ours, No.32, although it was on hold for a while until I sorted out a transaxle. So I think there are several numbers after 32. Floor and internal panels already on. I am really impressed by the superb laser-cut panels including rivet holes.

Some way of linking up to share experiences would be good if only to free Andy from being on the phone so much. If not on here, maybe we could gravitate to the T70 lounge on GT40s.com. Ron Earp has created a home for us and made us welcome plus he runs a very slick forum. Thomas Rouw’s post on there has met a very warm response so I don’t see the need to re-invent the wheel.

What say you all?
John McL.

Hi Chris John and hopefully more?

I've got number 29. Which is currently just about a rolling chassis well it would be if I had any wheels and tyres! I'm delaying buying the tyres as long as possible as I crashed an earlier TVR due to old tyres (well thats my story).

I agree with you John on the laser cut panels and thank god we don't have to measure out and pre-drill all those holes in the ali.

Waiting now for the body there's a bit of a backlog due to the weather over the winter, still this has given me a chance to hopefully get the wiring complete before it arrives. It's not the most satisfying job but needs to be done and if I'd known how long the modifications I've made to it would take I'm not sure I would have done them. Still it will be different to others.

I'll try and put some pics up but I'm not very patient on a computer, give me a spanner and file anyday!

Re the Owners Club/Forum I guess it would be easier to use an existing one the only thing about the GT40 one is it seems a bit US based but I suppose the more we use it from here the more it would suit us here re info etc. The local TVR club use a Yahoo e group which works well for passing info but discussions get a little more difficult.

i've been on gt40.com for a couple of yrs, and its ok, but very US based and RCR are competitors in the T70 replica field, so although its quite a nice forum i think something uk based might still be better. its good to get a response from some GD owners and T70s in particular. the most i have seen together is 3 at the barkston heath sprint and 3 at blyton for the GD trackday :-)
i had a real good thrash round track with andy at that and it would be great to meet up more.

Also, as pointed out, we can chat and ask questions etc that might otherwise take up andys time of the phone etc. we could also consider some group buys on tyres/oil if enough interest?

i used to be able to buy toyo888s direct but toyo shut down all small supplier accounts to allow camskill etc to corner the market and prices, but i bet we'd be able to approach suppliers for sets of 335-30-18s etc if enough needed.

i'll drop the PH team a mail then to see where we stand for a specific GD forum if poss.
