As per title really, is the new model a bit faster, a lot faster, how would it do against a 997s or 996tt in terms of performance? No real reason for aski g other than curiosity as to how far it's moved on.

With PDK it's 996tt performance, very quick car with 0-100mph of 8.4s, on a country road, both drivers equal the new 991 would leave 996 turbo.

Getting back into a manual 997 C4s after a week in a 991 C2s PDK made the 997 feel ordinary in a straight line.

The 991 was astonishingly fast in comparison.

A non-S (PDK) 991 appears quick compared to a (manual) S 997.1

I have gone from a 997.2 RS into a 991S and am not the only person on here to think that on ordinary roads the 991 is substantially faster.

Even at a wet Oulton Park the 991S could generate very impressive pace.

I am also not quite convinced that the speed is deceptive - to my mind when you are on it is feels incredibly quick.

The more I drive it, the more fantastic I think it is (in fact coming back from Florida having driven a Tahoe on US roads it feels like the Millennium Falcon!).

How do you know that?
Has it been done?

There is so many experts on PH these days not just on car values now and future values but now on random road tests FFS, also quicker than a GT3/2 or even a CGT?

This forum is just full of experts who needs the professionals eh?

in the twisty bits, which is all that matters, a 991S PDK, is not far behind a 12C.

991 is definitely sharper and more aggressive on the throttle and PDK is much improved over the 997. Add improved handling and a great noise and all these things add up to it "feeling" a lot faster IMHO. We are only talking about half a second here and there anyway, so "faster" is only part of the issue (again IMHO).

Depends what you like the best.

Ok, maybe his comment 'leave' a 996t was a bit strong - i'd say a 997.2t would leave a 6t. I had a GTS, and that was not far behind a 996t X50 in a straight line (the 6t probably had the edge, just), but having spent a few days in a 991 C2S PDK - it is definitely the quicker car. If i had to get from A-B (using country roads) in the fastest time, i'd bet my bumhole the 991 would be the quicker car. It's just such a confidently quick all-round car.

My experience:
Straight-line performance of the 991 (C2S PDK) is comparable to a 997.2 GT3/RS. 997.1 turbo (manual) is quicker straight-line than a 997.2GT3. 991 C2S PDK not quite as quick straight-line as 997.1t. 7.2 turbo S batters them all hehe

With launch and PDK I reckon the 991 will easily be consistently faster due to the average driver being unable to change gear fast enough or consistently enough.

I think one magazine managed 7.9s to 100 in an RS; I suspect the norm would be nearer 9s or more for even a decent driver.

You don't need to be an expert to realise a car with 10 years newer technology and from the rave reviews, lap times that it will be quicker than a 996 Turbo. Simple mechanics say that the 200+ kilo weight saving the 991 has over the 996 turbo will make it vastly quicker in the turns, then add it's much sharper and modern suspension setup will mean it's far more compliant on uk roads. The PDK alone will rule out the 996's horsepower advantage.

You don't need to be an expert to work out the 991 will be quicker, infact it's quite simple to realise it will be quicker which the 991 is at everything:-

Finally to answer your question, yes I've driven 996 turbo, 997 turbo and I've passengered in a 991 and by just been a passenger you can tell the 991 is a huge leap on from 997 in ability, let alone 996.

This^^^^. Until you have driven a 991, it's hard to imagine just how rapid the "basic" C2S really is. And what a big leap it really is from the 997. Like has been said, 10 years of development goes a long way, so it's to be expected. I swapped a 997.2 Turbo S for my 991 and don't regret it for a second. What it loses in flat out pace, it makes up for in every single other way.

Shouldn't forget though, that these are all spectacular cars by most standards.smile

What matters to myself personally is not how fast a car is, but more so how fast it FEELS...I'm hoping the 991 FEELS faster than the 996/7...

Wow, that's really impressive. 11.8 in the 1/4. I had no idea 991s had that much oomph. Must try to go drive one!

My 991s PDK feels proper fast. Faster no doubt than my 997.1 S manual. And much much louder too at full blast, much louder.

Motor trend said that their press car was too powerful when they put it to dyno. But if you get that factory power kit, those times are possible with PDK. With manual you are lucky if you hit 1/4 mile in 12.5s .

Just watched the car and driver lightning laps 2013,the 991s was faster on that track than the 997 turbo s they tested the year before.
I tested the 991 s straight after a 997gt3.2 and was driving a gallardo at the time and the 991 felt the quickest of those 3 ,the PDk was a huge help ,but even in gear the 991 felt as quick as the gt3.
It is a very very quick car
