Well, a sad day. After six years with my 993 Turbo, my second 993, it's now found a new owner...

Sold today via JZM to the very first viewer.

Even though I only did a little over 4k summer miles in six years, it's been fantastic. The plus side of the crime that is such low miles, is that the time with the car was very low cost. They are also every bit as great as people say they are.

JZM were excellent to deal with. I didn't fancy a private sale and they did an excellent job of selling it. Highly recommended.

The question now is...what next? This one was so perfect that now I'd like something a little less precious and mileage/condition sensitive and actually do some more driving...! Perhaps some time with a (!) water cooled offering...:-)

Get one of the GT2's that 911 Virgin are selling.

I made the move from a 993 Turbo last year to a 996 GT2, very happy!

A possibility! As is a Cayman R, for different reasons.

4k in six years!!!! Seriously with such a great car, at your disposal, how did you resist not using it, any day the sun shone?
Don't want to be rude, but what's the point of buying something else?

Good questions. Well, I bought probably the best one around at the time, in terms of condition. During my time with it it went up in value considerably, and I had other cars to drive so it was always easy to leave the low mileage garage queen in the garage, particularly if it was a family trip. I very much enjoyed the journeys I did do, and I also enjoyed just looking after it - that's part of the fun for me too. I guess I probably got out in it every other weekend in the summers.

The point of buying something new? Because I won't use all cars like that one...:-) Next I intend to buy something that is a little more useable - i.e. not a concours garage queen. Something that I won't end up washing/polishing every time I've used it, not that I objected... Off to browse the classifieds...

One is my old one........

Nar from a 3T you need to put some wedge into a track toy and buy a fast 911 turbo such as a 996, does everything so much better for so much less.

You should change your username to Sundriver! I'd have a hard time not doing that many miles every couple of months in a 993 Turbo. Do everything car, I reckon.

Maybe a GT something next? A bit less practical, but fun like bugger all else.

All of my previous cars have been low mileage garage queens, the last was a 993 C2S with 26k on the clock. Did similar miles to you so I know where you're comming from. It's a good Idea going water cooled as it may encourage you to get out and use it more and I know the GT2 discussed its a great example, I almost bought a MK1 GT3 (great car) but ended up with a 964 in the end which I am determined to get the miles on.

My point is you may end up in a similar position even with water cooled and revert to type, just ask Crimp, it's a different type of enjoyment which you will never understand if your not hooked. Good luck with your search smile

This thread just about somes up why when I bought my 993 I wanted a higher mileage one. 4k miles in six years because of buying pristine and a low mileage example. Just criminal. Nice profit yes, but a motor like that parked up and not used, what a shame.

Low mileage is nice to have but it's a heavy burden and can ruin your enjoyment of the car. I know someone on a 1500 mile policy and he has to carefully plan out his annual use, missing out on many great drives.

Pointless and dare I say it, a bit stupid?

My 993 crossed over the 100k mile mark just a few weeks ago and I feel sort of relieved.

It's a shame for some, but not necessarily for others. I thoroughly enjoyed owning it and looking after it. Preserving its condition, and improving it was part of the enjoyment - but I appreciate this isn't for a lot of folks. I like maintenance and detailing. Difficult to explain unless you're into that.

But yes, a high mileage example where you don't stress extra miles is a great thing too. Just different. And I've certainly done that too in the past and no doubt will again.
Sure, this one has been a garage queen - but I wouldn't have had it any other way really.

That said, I am presently browsing high mileage examples...:-)

Know the feeling. My low mileage very original 993 saw very few miles and I sold it because I wasn't using it. Ended up more preoccupied with checking the weather forecast and then cleaning it after every run out.

Hence I'm now in a 964 with higher miles where mileage in these models doesn't seem to preoccupy owners like those in a 993.

Other than GT2/GT3 I'd only go watercooled if I intended using the car as a daily

The funny thing is...I wouldn't do this with a new model. Give me a 991 and I'd love every minute of it and not give a hoot about the miles. I doubt I'd have the energy to even wash it much - I don't like washing cars as a rule. But give me an old car, and especially a rarer one, (doesn't need to be a Porsche) and I'll happily spend my time polishing the socks off it and fixing every little thing to get it perfect. Perhaps an enjoyable form of OCD...:-) Either way, it takes all sorts and enjoyment comes in all forms.

Interesting one, is the 993t in question the silver one? If so that's the price of a loaded new Cayman S. Imagine taking each car and putting 50,000 miles on each over two years and then selling up. Which would get the better residual? Assume the newer car would be better on fuel/maintenance but would it be enough to claw back the worse depreciation? Just wondering...

Yes the silver one. Who knows on your question - it's certainly interesting. My guess would be the 993, and certainly so over a longer period than two years. I doubt a graph showing value would ever see the 993 plot drop below the Cayman one. That Cayman S would be shedding VAT / options spend / about a grand a month in the early months. Such different cars of course. I used to have a Cayman S - loved it too. That said, dropping £65k on a Cayman S is something I just couldn't do.

So I have a 993tt with 110,000 on the clock now, and use it whenever I like, usually in the dry though, and not on salted roads. Not sure I do much more than 2000 to 2500 miles a year just down to the UK weather and the above rules. Had it for 5 years now, and for me, nothing else comes close. I have been wondering what it's worth... Polar with classic grey, fitted with a Porsche 450 ps oem engine upgrade, basically the same engine as the euro turbo s.

What's the verdict?
