Hi,

I wonder if any of you could help me?

My 2001 M3 has the satnav/tv fitted to the dash. Ive gone to use the car today and the display has all changed. Sat nav option has gone and the font has changed. Looks very basic. The car doesnt get used very much and the battery has gone flat a few times (sometimes flat for weeks at a time) Could this be the cause? Also is there a way to get it all back to normal?

Thanks

James

If it's the mk3 nav its probably fried. They dont take to kindly to flat batteries and jump starting and the likes. This happened on my M5 when I diconnected the battery for winter storage a couple of years ago. Time for the mk4 upgrade.

Download the firmware update CD, burn to CD and slap it in the drive, it'll re-flash the firmware and sort the issue.

If the navigation drive/disc in the boot is a CD then it is Mk3. If DVD then Mk4.

If nobody has previously updated any of the hardware then it is more than likely a Mk3 drive, my 51 plate M3 had a Mk3.

It's been a while, but I think the old font (blue screen?) is when the nav computer doesn't start up.

When the battery is fully charged up, remove fuses 7 and 41, wait a few mins, replace them and see if it comes back.

Also try a different CD/DVD nav disc.

Does the screen look like this?

If so, download and re-flashing the firmware will sort it. I know this because that's how I, and lots of others have fixed it.

Hi James

Go to www.m3cutters.co.uk or advice.

There are a few experts on that website that will be ale to point you in the right direction or even charge you a nominal amount or a software update etc.

Cheers

Also look at the custom firmware on the Cutters site which can add night mode, 3d mode, camera locations and more if its a mk4 dvd drive.
I would junk the mk3 as its now very out of date.

Mine does that and have tried putting the very latest firmware in etc.

It doesn't work.

I've been told that the actual SatNav unit in the boot is knackered and it has nothing to do with the software.....I'm led to believe it has something to do with moisture entering the system....

Hi,
Sorry for the very very late reply!

Thanks for all you help on this, tried everything and still nothing. From what ive read on the net its pretty much had it! Its a MK3 CD one. To upgrade to DVD do i just need to buy the dvd "player" in the boot or is there more?

Thanks

James

The Mk4 is a much better, much faster unit that I would recommend to all.
