Nice policeman
Discussion
Got pulled over on Sunday morning whilst taking my kids to Taikwondo,I was late so was looking where I was going and not where I had been.
Didn't notice highly visible jam sandwhich untill behind me at traffic lights.Pulled away using usuall ammount of right foot so as not to indicate I was feeling guilty,Blue lights go on and he overtakes me and bwe stop at next layby.
I get out (was always told to do this by parent) mr PC walks over and asks if this is my car,I say yes,"is it Turbo" ireply in the negative. He tells me he had been following me for a while as he couldn't catch me up along bypass, asks me what speed I say eerrrrr about 80mph and he says I think abit faster than that cause I couldn't catch you.Anyway after telling me my number plate is illegally spaced and warning me to slow down a bit,he says "I know its a Sunday and you have a fast car and its easy to go a bit over the speed limit",he let me get on my way.
So I think what a nice policeman and my kids think so too,so they are not all :evil

You were lucky. I remember back in 1997 when i had a 2.1 Diesel Turbo Peugeot 406 company car, it flew!! I was driving out of Bury St. Edmunds one night at about 11pm, accellerated out of the 30 limit and it kept going and going, i was pulling about 110mph on a single carraigeway road (highly irresponsible i know) and then as i was slowing down for the first village, then i was aware of these headlights that came tonking up behind me. He stayed with me for a couple of minutes, i'm doing 30 at this point, then i get the disco lights so i pull over.
I did exactly the same as you, put my hazards and sidelights on, get out and go to him standing on the pavement between my car and his. He says "Did you realise you were pulling 80mph when i clocked you and you were still climbing?", i said "I'm really sorry, this is not my car, its my new company car (it had "demonstrator" down the side) and i've not been with the company long". He just said, "If i rang your company and told your boss, he wouldn't be very happy would he?" i just said "i'd prbably get the sack". Then to my sheer amazement, he got another call, and read me the riot act and cleared off!! I just sat in the car and couldn't believe what just happened, i was damn lucky!!!!
I have to point out that i was working for my father at the time for one of his Peugeot dealerships. I nearly shat myself that i thought i was going to lose my license.

I had a similiar escape in Bedforshire a few months back. He was a nice plod in a unmarked car, pulled me up, gave me a good taliing to and then let me on my way. Needless to say i take it much easier around that area now - who says they need to fine you?

Mutual respect.
Two very important words, especially in the context of law enforcement. Apparently some Police officers appreciate this fact - Good for them!

I had a similar experience with a a trafpol on the new Stanstead bypass. Pulled me at 85 to 90mph. Didn't patronise me or insult my intelligence. Nodded at the Road Angel on my dash and remarked "they don't tell you if there's a trafpol car behind you do they". Delivered a short lecture. Told me I couldn't justify this speed with two young kids in the back. Sympathised with me over my screaming brats (said he had two very similar) and bid me farewell.
Lesson learned, respect established.
Cheers mate.

I got stopped early one morning going through a village in the cotswolds, stereo on loud, beautiful day - I didn't have clue how fast I was going who what the speed limit was - yes I know that's bad.
Got pulled over by a BiB who was on his way home - with hindsight I know he couldn't have booked me as he couldn't have proved my speed - but I also know I was going way too quick through the village.
We then had one of those Jasper Carrot type conversations about where I was going so early, so quickly....with me replying that I was going to Slverstone! He read me the riot act and I always watch my speed through that village now!!

I bet they weren't trafpol. Consequently, no speed measuring equipment and they couldn't be bothered to deal with you for the illegal number plate..
