Underneath the arches

Well it seems like summer finally started yesterday around here, glorious sunshine all day so I gave the Tuscan a good wash and spent the rest of the day driving round.

She came up a treat but the only thing letting her down is that the arches are a bit grubby. A mixture of fading/flaking black stuff with a bit of overspray for good measure.

I'd like to tidy this so have you done it? What products/method did you use. Am I right in thinking the factory just used black aerosol?

I'm not after perfection just a nice durable uniform colour that I can give a once-over each wash with a hose/brush/degreaser followed by a quick flash of dressing.

I assuming a thorough clean, degrease and removal of loose existing coating, dry and then some form of stone chip?

Not so much the chassis, purely a cosmetic measure for the arches.

Hammerite Stone Chip paint is ideal. Gives very good coverage and does not set hard so does just what it should and resists chips.

I should spray myself with that.......can't resist chips.......

On a different but similar note, to the OP, below the doors on my Chimaera, the paint stops in a straight line and below that it is painted a sort of rough black, which is visible, messy, uneven and looks like it has run. I will post a pic later, when it's light outside.
With what should I re-paint that area? Clearly not a paint that stays sticky.....I'd prefer to mask it off and use a spray can off possible.

Just painted mine with matt black enamel paint from Halfords. I tidied the arches up a bit first and then just applied the paint by hand (brush) and masked off as required. I've used it before and it seems to last fine.

The paint I used and described above is thin so I wouldn't describe it as stone guard or underseal if you know what I mean? A lot depends on the starting condition and the prep so have fun!

Not sure what type of paint is on your sills - is it oily like undersell? Would if rub off gently with some white spirit? Or, maybe some T cut? A bit of trial and error on some less noticeable bits might be a good idea.

The bottom of the sills is exactly what stone chip paint is made for. If it is then brake cleaner containing Naptha will disolve it.
