D7000 shutter........................ is the camera kaput?

Clicking away yesterday and the camera jammed showing "ERR" in the displays
when the shutter release is pressed the mirror lifts and nothing else happens.

videoed the actuation and took screen shots from the frames and there is
clearly a ribbon? with a tear that appears to be jamming things.

Is a new shutter a viable option or an excuse to upgrade?

is there a way the find the shutter actuation count? as Im curious as to the life of it.

I'm really missing not having a live SLR

Take the battery out, take the card out, restart everything... Worked for me.

I've had good service on an out of warranty zoom lens repair from Kingston. I seem to recall that Nikon have just opened a new centre in central London but their website is still listing Kingston. Do check before travelling on spec!

Sendean in central London v good for shutter repairs

I bought a Canon 1Ds with that issue, Canon fitted a new shutter in less than a week turnaround for £220 + VAT, I'm sure Nikon will be similar.

Interesting.

I suspect that all body repairs from Canon are £220 and all lens services are £160. (Plus VAT). Nikon probably similar.

(Assuming that a total internal destruction caused by something like water is not a cause of course.)

using Panda IEXIF discovered that the shutter broke after 38112 actuations

that doesnt seem a very good life!!!!!!!!

You might get some goodwill out of them for such a low shutter count, a contribution at least.

Had a quote back from Nikon repair
(they cover postage and insurance)

£205 for new Shutter unit, aperture control unit
fit, check, test and clean

they have the go ahead ........... about 2 week repair time

looking forward to getting it back and start snapping again
