Hi,
My son has just picked up his first car. On the roof where it had a Learner sign, (we assume)there is a tough hard plastic type patch.
Its about 400mm wide and covers across the width of the the roof.

Is there anything he can buy to help in removing it. It doesnt want to peel or even be picked off. Is there a solvent that will help?
many thanks

Try a heat gun on it before trying to peel it, not to hot as your fingers won't like it.

Yep ^^^^
Get your wifes/gf's/daughters hair-drier turn it onto full heat and warm it as you peel it.
Once you remove it you'll probably still see where it's been and will need to get it machine polished.
(Alternatively your son could become a taxi driver or get a job delivering pizzas)

Tried the hair dryer, did'nt do anything. Did not even make it soft.

As for the pizza delivery, not much demand for cold pizza round here which from the speed he moves at it would be.

How warm did you manage to get the plastic .... you have to get it almost but not quite hot enough to burn your fingers

Can you get some tar and glue remover under an edge of it and work your way further in? Otherwise you will need get sme heat into it and use an old credit card or spreader to work it off bit by bit ... It will take time but its the best way to avoid damage

I would try petrol (carefully) as that dissolves most solvents. Will at least give you a view as to whether it will come off.

See if you can borrow a proper heat gun too. I have one here but you are a bit far away...

Thanks for the replies! But still not had any luck. Got the plastic as hot as I dare ie can't touch it, but hasn't made any difference. Is the petrol alright to try? Shall I put it on a rag or brush it on? Thanks
