It's no good, must have it back.

Sadly regretting sale of sportwagon, the Golf gti is better screwed together but definately lacking in charisma.
Right then, let's try to find a sportwagon again.....
Malcolm, it was inevitable
Have a look at a saloon as well as a Sportwagon - the extra boot space more than makes up for the lack of a hatch. And stock up on the WD40!!!
Some truth in that Mustard.
Wife had a few issues with the alfa, I relented, sold it and bought her a golf gti turbo instead.
I prefer the Alfa though, yes, bits fell off and doesn't feel so well built, but it is supposed to be like that so, if the golf goes, I will be on the lookout for another one. The golf is in the classifieds to show my intent, now then.....Sportwagon twinspark or saloon v6....

Sportwagon V6
If only you'd asked
We sold a (Mk3) Golf GTi before getting the Sportwagen. The Alfa could run rings around the Golf in the handling stakes and it has more style in one wheel nut than the Golf has overall!!!
After a terrific week's motoring holiday in Ireland I was even (whisper it so my 300ZX doesn't hear) thinking about getting a V6 Sportwagen for myself.
But maybe one Alfa in the family is enough for now. I don't want to tempt fate

I think the Golf has the alfa in the speed stakes, and possibly the handling. It has a turbo and beefed up suspension which in my view is too damned stiff.
It doesn't have the charisma of the Alfa though.
I know what you mean about MK3 golfs, I had a VR6, it was absolutely abysmal in the corners, like a blancmange. Pleased to say the MK4 turbo is a lot better.
I think the V6 is the way ahead, although the twinspark was pretty fizzy.

2.4 JTD.
The compromise with the V6 is the weight, so you lose some of the handling keeness of the TS. The JTD also has this problem, but against that it has oodles of torque (225lb ft for the 10 valve), is built like a brick outhouse, returns 40mpg and sounds as mean as a Group B Quatrro.
The 2.5 V6 does sound very wonderful and looks good when you open the bonnet. But it has a serious drink problem, a narrow powerband and very little more torque than the 2.0 Twin Spark - just 163lb at 5,000 rpm!!! This is one of the reasons they have just stopped making it...
